RESUMO: Objetivo: verificar o conhecimento de estudantes adolescentes sobre o HIV/AIDS. Método: estudo exploratório-descritivo com abordagem quantitativa, realizado com 298 estudantes de duas escolas públicas, em Recife, Pernambuco, Brasil. Para coleta de dados utilizou-se um questionário autoaplicável. Resultados: o estudo aponta que a maioria dos adolescentes já deu início a vida sexual (53,4%); no que diz respeito os métodos preventivos, 44,1% relataram já ter utilizado, sendo o preservativo o mais frequente. A maioria (92%) declarou saber as formas de transmissão do HIV/AIDS. A televisão (75,2%) foi a principal fonte de informação sobre o HIV/AIDS. Conclusão: os adolescentes apesar de terem conhecimento sobre o modo de transmissão do HIV/AIDS, não quer dizer que realizam práticas sexuais seguras, dessa forma, urge a necessidade de implementar políticas de promoção e proteção da saúde no ambiente escolar. A self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Results: the study points out that most teenagers already initiated sex life (53.4%); regarding preventive methods, 44.1% reported having used them, condoms being the most frequent. Most students (92%) reported knowing the HIV/AIDS transmission routes. Television was the main source of information about HIV/AIDS. Conclusion: despite having knowledge about HIV/AIDS transmission, that doesn't mean that the adolescents perform safe sexual practices, thus, there is a need to implement policies of health promotion and protection in the school environment.
ResumoIntrodução: Diante das práticas sexuais desprotegidas e da multiplicidade de parceiros entre jovens e adultos, faz-se necessário conhecer como esses indivíduos percebem a infecção pelo HIV e suas práticas sexuais de risco. Objetivo: Identificar os significados a respeito das pessoas que vivem com HIV e da exposição ao HIV para estudantes inseridos no Programa de Educação de Jovens e Adultos. Casuística e Métodos: Estudo descritivo, de caráter exploratório, com abordagem qualitativa, desenvolvido em duas Escolas Públicas na cidade do Recife, Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil. O período da coleta dos dados ocorreu de setembro a dezembro de 2012. Utilizou-se a técnica de entrevista. Para análise dos dados foi utilizado análise de conteúdo. Participaram 59 alunos. Resultados: A análise resultante das falas foi dividida em três categorias: representação do estereótipo da pessoa que vive com HIV; presença da família no apoio psicológico à pessoa que vive com HIV; e atitudes e ações de risco para a contaminação pelo HIV. Conclusão: Observou-se que estereótipos e estigmas em torno do HIV ainda existem, perpassando por atitudes e práticas preconceituosas, assim como o receio em lidar com esses indivíduos. O estudo identificou ainda que os entrevistados, após visualizarem uma pessoa conhecida infectada pelo HIV, passaram a se preocupar com a realização de comportamentos preventivos durante as relações sexuais. Observamos também como as pessoas estão mais dispostas a apoiar esses indivíduos no enfrentamento da doença.Descritores: Síndrome de imunodeficiência adquirida; HIV; Adulto jovem. AbstractIntroduction: In view of the unprotected sexual intercourse and multiple partners among young people and adults, it is necessary to know how these individuals perceive HIV infection and their sexual risk. Objective: The aim of the present study is to identify the meanings about people living with HIV and the meanings of the HIV exposure for students enrolled in the Youth and Adult Education Program. Patients and Methods: This is a descriptive exploratory study using a qualitative approach, which was carried out at two public schools in the city of Recife, in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. The period of data collection was from September to December 2012. We carried out personal interviews to gather the survey data. We analyzed the data using the content analysis technique. The study sample was composed of 59 students, who agreed to take part in the interviews. Results: The resulting analysis of the speeches was divided into three categories: stereotypical representation of people living with HIV; Family presence in psychological support to people living with HIV; and attitudes and actions risk for the infection of HIV. Conclusion: We observed that stereotypes and stigmas regarding the HIV still exist. These current prejudices pass over the attitudes and preconceived practices, as well as the fear of dealing with these individuals.
