An Indian origin cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is one of the most popular vegetables of the family Cucurbitaceae. It is the preferred in various ways, salad ingredient, pickles, deserts fruit and as a cooked vegetable, hence it has attained the crop improvement as compared to other cucurbit vegetables. Therefore the present investigation has been carried out to know the extent of heterosis for growth and yield parameters. The experimental materials consisted of 5 Lines and 5 Testers of cucumber collected from the germplasm maintained by the Department of Vegetable Science, College of Horticulture, UHS Campus, GKVK, and Bengaluru. Their 25 F 1 's were developed by crossing them in Line X Tester mating design. The IIHR-285, IIHR-341, IIHR-304, Green Long, Pondicherry-1, were used as lines and the Poinsette, Phule Shubhangi, Punjab Naveen, Pusa Uday, Kerala-1 were used as testers based on their yield potentiality. Observation from five competitive plants was recorded on various characters viz., vine length (cm), number of branches per vine, number of nodes per vine, Node of female flower appearance, node of male flower appearance, days to first fruit harvest, sex ratio, days to female flower anthesis and on fruit yield per plant (kg). Analysis of variance was carried out separately for all the characters. The present experiment identified the important hybrids for commercial use viz Green long × Poinsette, Green long × Pusa Uday, Pondicherry 1 × Punjab Naveen as which have exhibited the maximum significant standard heterosis for fruit yield per vine , for fruit length, average fruit weight, number of fruits per vine over the check Chitra.

The experiment was conducted to study the 200 tomato genotypes for growth, yield and quality attributes. Among the 200 genotypes, the genotype Akshaya was exhibited least days taken to fifty percent flowering (21.00). In case of growth parameters maximum plant height noticed in genotype (13P3) 202.33 cm and maximum branches was observed in genotype (AR-56) i.e. 11.33 branches per plant. The highest fruit width and average fruit weight reported in (H-86) 8.15cm and (131.94 g). Yield attributing characters like number of fruits per plant (204.37) was highest recorded in EC-338717. The total tomato fruit yield highest was recorded per plant 6.48 kg genotype (4P1). With respect to quality parameters like Pericarp thickness highest was observed in (AOTD-10) i.e. 7.42 mm. The genotype AR-56 (7.00) was recorded highest total soluble solids. High range of fruit firmness was observed in (AOTD-18) 6.25 kg/cm2.  This study gives information on the agronomic variation in the 200 tomato genotypes assessed which can invariably serve as an index to selecting putative parents in breeding for new tomato variety that will combine desirable agronomic characteristics with high yield and its attributing characters.

In the present days the fuels are limited and depleting day by day as the consumption is increasing very rapidly. And also due to these fossil fuels the world today is facing a serious environmental pollution. To avoid this it is necessary to find an alternative fuel to Diesel which should be produced from renewable resources. The fuels which are produced from these resources are termed as alternative fuels. In the present work, experimental investigations were carried out on a single cylinder 4-stroke, naturally aspirated, direct injection and water cooled CI engine with Diesel and waste vegetable biodiesel blends as fuel. From this Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE), Brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) and Exhaust Emissions were studied. From the experimental results it is observed that obtained Brake Thermal Efficiency is better for bio-diesel blend B20 with minimum Brake Specific Fuel Consumption. It is also observed that there is a reduction in the quantity of Carbon Monoxide and Hydro Carbon and increased exhaust gas temperature when compared with Diesel as fuel.

Pressure measurements were carried out in an unshrouded radial inflow turbine in a closed circuit test facility, at nozzle inlet and exit, vis-a-vis rotor exit. Besides, blade surface pressures on the nozzle and rotor blades, wall static pressures on the back plate of nozzle and rotor blade passages, shroud static pressure variation along the casing from rotor inlet to exit were also measured for four different mass flows through the turbine. The increase of nozzle exit angle resulted in an increase of the stator loss coefficient at any mass flow rate. Rotor pressure measurements showed an adverse pressure gradient on the suction surface close to the hub region. Compared to the total pressure levels near the hub and shroud of the rotor passage, the pressure was higher at the mid height. The swirl at the rotor exit is somewhat stronger near the tip region as compared to the hub and the average loss is more towards the tip.

The improvement of jackfruit is required to make it amenable for intensive cultivation and make it suitable for a variety of value-added products. There is a significant variation for various traits such as plant phenology, leaf shape, leaf size, fruit shape, fruit size, number of fruits per plant, flake colour, number of flakes per fruit etc. The jackfruit crop has long juvenility, high clonal heterozygosity, recalcitrant type of seeds make it difficult to improvement of jackfruit varieties or hybrids, but on the other hand ease of vegetative propagation of hybrids or varieties is advantageous for the jackfruit breeder. The development of jackfruit is again based on the selection of clones especially for small-sized quality fruits, dwarf, less gum type, disease and pest resistance etc. The detailed knowledge on phenology, inheritance pattern and advanced techniques for hybrid/variety development will be useful to overcome the problems of jackfruit breeding viz fruit size, gummier fruits, susceptibility to disease and pests etc. The development of genetic markers has further reduced the uncertainty in the breeding of jackfruit and maintains the hybrid/varietal populations with desirable characteristics.
