The input data values averaged over a 10-year period is obtained from India Meteorological Department, Pune. The useful energy delivered by a collector is evaluated with consideration for various heat losses. An average value of solar electricity potential of a 25.3 kW parabolic dish collector is found to be maximum of 15.3 kW for Jodhpur and minimum of 12.7 for Calcutta. Maps of annual variation of solar electricity potentials, comparison of electricity potentials of Indian cities for different months, average electricity potentials and annual electrical energy generation for various Indian cities have been developed. To produce 25 kW of electrical power on all the days of a year, three different dishes are recommended for the Indian cities of Jodhpur, Trivendrum and Calcutta. This atlas provides knowledge and aids in exploitation of solar electricity generation for Indian climatic conditions.

Energy has become a crucial factor for humanity to continue the economic growth and maintain high standard of living especially after industrial revolution. “Fossil fuels are still the main source of energy. But the endless consumption of fossil fuels will bring the reserve to an end in near future. As a result fuel prices are soaring because of diminishing supply than demand. So researchers world over are in constant search of alternate fuels in the last three to four years, aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and global dependency on fossil fuels. The use of vegetable oils as a fuel in diesel engine causes some problems due to their high viscosity compared with conventional diesel fuel. Various techniques and methods are used to solve the problems resulting from high viscosity. One of these techniques is blending of fuel. In this study, a mix of 5%, 10%,15%, 20%, 25% sesame oil and diesel fuel was used as alternative fuel in a direct injection diesel engine. Diesel engine performance and exhaust emissions were investigated and compared with the diesel fuel in a diesel engine. The experimental results show that the engine power and torque of the mixture of sesame oil diesel fuel are close to the values obtained from diesel fuel and the amount of exhaust emissions are lower than those of diesel fuel. Hence it is seen that mix of sesame oil 20% and 80% diesel fuel can be used as an alternative fuel successfully in a diesel engine without any modification and also it is an environmental friendly” fuel in terms of emission parameters.
In recent days, fuels are very limited and also depleting from day to day as utilization is very rapidly increasing. Because of these fossil fuels, the globe today is encountering with a serious environmental damage in the form of pollution. To reduce this it is now necessary to search an alternative fuel to Diesel which is prepared from renewable sources. The fuels produced in this way are termed as alternative fuels. In the current work, experimental research was carried out over naturally aspirated, water cooled and single cylinder 4-stroke and direct injection CI engine with Diesel and pungamiah biodiesel blends as fuel. From this Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE), Brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) and Exhaust Emissions were investigated. From the experimental results it is observed that obtained Brake Thermal Efficiency is better for bio-diesel blend B20 with minimum Brake Specific Fuel Consumption. It is also observed that there is a reduction in the quantity of Carbon Monoxide and Hydro Carbon and increased exhaust gas temperature when compared with Diesel as fuel.
