O presente artigo analisa os perfis raciais e de gênero representados em duas décadas de cinema brasileiro. O objetivo é contribuir com os debates das ciências sociais sobre desigualdades e com a crítica feminista interseccional, a partir da apreensão de como minorias políticas e grupos dominantes são inseridos nas narrativas formuladas pela indústria audiovisual nacional. Para tal, em primeiro lugar, construímos uma base de dados com os filmes de maior público entre os anos de 1995 e 2015, de acordo com informações disponíveis no Observatório Brasileiro do Cinema e do Audiovisual (OCA-ANCINE). Em seguida, observamos os longas-metragens e classificamos diversas características de 6.450 personagens que obtiveram alguma relevância no enredo das tramas, considerados dois critérios: nomeação ou participação em diálogos. Os resultados permitem indicar padrões discriminatórios de inclusão nas narrativas, que afetam principalmente a população preta e parda.
Este ensaio elabora uma breve história do Grupo de Estudos Multidisciplinares da Ação Afirmativa (GEMAA), núcleo de pesquisa sediado no IESP-UERJ. Para tal, após uma pequena introdução, o texto ressalta três marcos de trajetória institucional: o conteúdo desenvolvido, que possui duas grandes linhas de investigação concentradas no acesso ao ensino superior, ou na diversidade em representações da indústria cultural; as estratégias de comunicação, caracterizadas pela contínua intervenção no debate público, a partir da interlocução com a mídia, atores governamentais e movimentos sociais; e, por fim, a coletividade do legado de conhecimento produzido, que reúne gerações de cientistas sociais. De uma maneira geral, a principal contribuição do GEMAA à sociedade tem sido a difusão de evidências empíricas de desigualdades raciais e injustiças sistemáticas contra os pretos e pardos no Brasil.
