Our purpose in this study was to evaluate performance and capacity as defined by Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) and Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) from the 'activity limitation' perspective of International Classification of Functioning,Disability, and Health (ICF) and to investigate the relationship between the two classification systems in different subtypes of cerebral palsy (CP). This prospective cross-sectional study was performed on 448 children with CP ranging from 4 to 15 years of age. Activity limitations were studied with the GMFCS for gross motor function and MACS for manual ability. The Spearman's correlation coefficient, contingency coefficient, and Cramer's V coefficient were used to assess the strength and significance of the association betweenGMFCS and MACS. The overall agreement between GMFCS and MACS was found to be 41%. The agreement was 42% in spastic children, 40% in dyskinetic children, 50% in ataxic children, and 28% in mixed type children. The overall j value was j=0.235 (P<0.001). The κ coefficient was 0.252 in spastic children, 0.245 in dyskinetic children, 0.318 in ataxic children, and 0.023 in mixed type children. All the κ coefficients except the value for the mixed type were found to be significant. The usage of two different classification systems, GMFCS and MACS, to describe the capacity and performance in children with CP as defined by the ICF provides an easy and quick classification tool for indicating 'activity limitations' of ICF in children with CP. The next step in research should be to highlight the other domains such as participation restrictions in these children.
Bu araştırmada işitme, konuşma, özel eğitim ve rehabilitasyon merkezlerinde çalışan işitme engelliler öğretmenleri ile odyoloji ve konuşma bozuklukları uzmanlarının, işitme kayıplı çocukların tanı, değerlendirme, eğitim süreçleri, eğitimlerinde ailelerin katılımına yönelik düzenlemelere ilişkin görüşlerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Betimsel desende nitel araştırma yönteminde gerçekleştirilen bu araştırmanın verileri, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği ile toplanmıştır. Katılımcılar İzmir ilinde araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü 5 işitme engelliler öğretmeni ve 3 odyoloji ve konuşma bozuklukları uzmanı (OKBU)'dır. İşitme kayıplı çocuklara özel eğitim ve rehabilitasyon desteği sunan işitme engelliler öğretmenleri ile odyoloji ve konuşma bozuklukları uzmanlarının görüşleri incelendiğinde ''İşitme engelli öğrencilerin tanı ve değerlendirme süreçlerine ilişkin görüşler, İletişim yaklaşımlarına ve uygulanan programa ilişkin görüşler, İzleme ve değerlendirmeye ilişkin görüşler, İşbirliğinin önemine ilişkin görüşler, Yasal düzenlemelere ilişkin görüşler'' olmak üzere beş ana temada betimlenmiştir. Ana temalar, 11 alt temadan oluşmaktadır. Çalışma sonunda işitme kaybının erken dönemde tanılanması, okul öncesi ve diğer öğretim kademelerinde aileye eğitim desteğinin verilmesi, işaret dilinin öğretmenlere öğretilmesi gibi öneriler ortaya çıkmıştır.
In this study, it is aimed to compare the early literacy skills of children with cochlear implants with 60-72 months of preschool and / or special education to the results of children with normal hearing. For this purpose, the following questions were sought. In this study, "Demographic Form" containing the general information of volunteer families and children was included in the study and Early Literacy Test-EROT was applied to evaluate the early literacy skills of children. As a result, word knowledge between two groups, receptive and expressive language, general naming, knowledge of function scores were statistically different; in the phonological awareness sub-tests, the difference between separating the word into syllable, combining syllables, eliminating the first sound of words results with cochlear implants were statistically significant between two groups. However, there was no statistically significant difference between groups in terms of rhyme awareness, matching the first sound of words, matching the last sound of words, separating the sentence into words, eliminating the last voice of words and total phonological awareness scores; moreover, it was found that CI users had lower scores in the knowledge of letter, listening comprehension subtests and EROT total scores, and the difference between the groups was significant.
Game is an activity in which children voluntarily take part in, which helps them imagine something, has general rules for motivating, is entertaining, active and an important tool in learning. The aim of this study is to examine the courses regarding teaching games which is found in Teacher Education Program for intellectual disability, visual impairment, hearing-impaired, multiple disabilities, gifted and talented education at the department of special education in terms of their contents and credits. In the descriptive research method with regard to identifying the existing situation, the information concerning the variables of the European Union member states and Turkey have been reached from the sources called Agencies of the European Union, Eurydice-Network on Education Systems and Policies in Europe. The findings have been obtained by means of examining the courses in Special Education Teacher Training undergraduate programs stated in the reports of National Education System Descriptions that each country published. Many courses in relation to teaching games are obligatory in most of the European Union member states (Czech Republic, Denmark, Holland, Spain, Sweden, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Hungary, and Greece), and the contents of these courses have been determined according to the age of children that the preservice teachers will work with and the variety of disabilities. In Teacher Education Program for intellectual disability, and visual impairment in Turkey, while the courses of “Physical Education and Teaching Games” are theoretically available, any course regarding games and teaching games have not been found in Teacher Education Program for Hearing Impairment undergraduate program Keywords: Special education, teacher training program, game teaching
