MODELS FOR ESTIMATING LEAF AREA OF MANGO, USING LINEAR MEASURESABSTRACT -The objective was to determine the models that best describe the relationship between linear dimensions and leaf area of mango, cv. Tommy Atkins, and to establishing the correction factor. The research has been conducted at the experimental farm of Federal Rural University of Amazonia, at Cuiarana village, municipality of Salinópolis, Pará. 90-150 leaves from 11 trees were analyzed in a field experiment and it was determined the length and width of leaves. The leaf area was determined using the actual of foliar area integrator Area Meter (AM 300). The correction factor was obtained by dividing the real foliar area by foliar area calculated. Linear and nonlinear models also estimated leaf area. The mathematical models created present an excellent performance, with R 2 values between 90 and 97%. The correction factor of 0.71 can be used to estimate the involving real leaf area of mango, multiplied by linear measurements. The models that used the product dimensions, as independent variables, had R 2 values higher than those who used only one dimension, being the cubic model, the most accurate. Index terms: Mangifera indica L., real leaf area, length and width, linear model, non linear model, non destructive method.
-This work evaluated the effect of soil water availability on growth and productivity variables of cowpea in northeastern Pará, Brazil. The experiment was carried out in a field of 2,100 m 2 at the experimental site of the Federal Rural University of Amazon, during the driest season of the years 2011, 2012 and 2013, in a completely randomised design with two treatments (irrigated and non-irrigated), both with 12 replications in the reproductive phase (2012 and 2013). Growth and productivity data were submitted to analysis of variance with two variation factors (water regime and experimental year) at 5% probability. Student's t-test at 5% probability was used in the means of the stomatal conductance data, since this was monitored only in 2012. Keywords: Vigna unguiculata. Productivity. Water availability. Produtividade. -Cowpea has great socioeconomic importance in the northeastern part of Pará state. However, in order to provide suitable irrigation management during the dry period this region requires solid information regarding water demand by regional crops. This research aims to determine the water demand, the crop coefficient (Kc) and the uncoupling factor during the different development stages of cowpea in the northeast of Pará. The crop evapotranspiration (ETc) was measured by drainage lysimeters. This information was coupled to the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) to obtain the crop coefficients, which were used to adjust the model function of accumulated degree-days and the leaf area index (LAI). The uncoupling factor was estimated to indicate the factors that control evapotranspiration. The ETc values reached a cumulative total of 267.73 mm ± 10.21 mm during the cowpea cycle. The average value of the uncoupling factor was 0.66. This indicates that the cowpea crop does not fully uncouple from the atmosphere underneath the climatic conditions in northeast Pará. The cowpea Kc values presented averages of 0.8, 1.4 and 0.8 in the vegetative phase, reproductive phase and final stage, respectively. The Gaussian model showed an excellent fit for the estimation of Kc values based on accumulated degree days and the LAI. These amounts differ from others found in the literature. Therefore, it reinforces the necessity for an assessment of crop coefficients under local conditions and for the employment of more precise methods. Keywords: Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.
CLIMATOLOGICAL RAINFALL PATTERNS AND TRENDS IN THE RAINY AND DRY REGIMES IN EASTERN AMAZONABSTRACT: This paper presents a contribution to the dynamic climatology aspects of the eastern Amazon, based on the observational analysis of the 40-yr historical series (1975 to 2014) of precipitation from 30 meteorological stations in the states of Pará, Maranhão and Tocantins. The results showed that the climatological rainfall patterns in the rainy (January to May) and dry (July to November) regimes presented a pronounced spatial variability with different climatic characteristics (intensity and geographic position of pluviometric maximum and minimum) between the two seasonal regimes. Precipitation data from the TRMM satellite indicated that the ITCZ and SACZ are the main meteorological systems of the rainy regime, while the convective complexes, instability lines and influences of the frontal bands located in the Brazilian northeast are the main
ESTIMATE OF BASE TEMPERATURE AND THERMAL REQUIREMENT IN MANGO FOR THE NORTHEAST OF PARÁABSTRACT -The objective of this study was to estimate the threshold temperatures and the thermal requirement of mango, in the northeast of the state of Para. One experiment was carried out in a mango orchard of 25 hectare during the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 season in which the phenological and meteorological conditions were daily monitored from flowering to harvest. Both mango seasons were submitted to different meteorological conditions, and therefore, both the duration of the reproductive stage and the mean thermal requirement were significantly different. The thresholds temperatures (lower and higher) of the mango were 13 °C and 32 °C, respectively, the thermal requirement found for the mango orchard reach to the harvest stage was 1,024.23 °C day INTRODUÇÃOA temperatura do ar é uma das variáveis ambientais que mais interferem no desenvolvimento das plantas, especialmente em casos em que não ocorra deficiência hídrica acentuada, tendo efeito direto sobre o metabolismo das plantas (RIBEIRO et al., 2006;LUCAS et al., 2012).A mangueira tolera temperaturas entre -6 °C e 40 °C, existindo variedades que suportam até 48 °C.
Palavras-chave: mudança no uso da terra, refletância, monocultura Albedo of soybean crop in the frontier region of the Amazon ABSTRACT Soybean expansion in the Amazon has been increasing considerably in recent years, the consequences of which can be serious environmental impacts. In this paper the soybean albedo (Glycine Max (L.) Merryl) was evaluated, which was planted in natural field conditions in Paragominas city (PA), a region representative of agricultural expansion in Amazon. A direct relationship was observed between soybean albedo and its leaf area index (LAI), showing a daily maximum value between 0.24 and 0.25 associated to a LAI of 7.17, when soybean has accumulated 1297.62 degree-days. It was found that the most critical phase of the crop, based on change in surface albedo, is the fruitification phase, when albedo shows a maximum mean value of 0.23 (± 0.0007). Empirical models were fitted to simulate the daily variation of the albedo as a function of LAI and soil humidity during the cycle, and to simulate the diurnal variation of the albedo as a function of solar elevation, for each soybean phase.
