Objective: This research work proposes and evaluates a model for the provision of physical rehabilitation services supported by teleoperated technological aids, using the Internet as a communication channel for the care of the rural population, and by taking as the study region, a western subregion of Colombia around the municipality of Santiago de Cali- Colombia. Methodology: From the dynamics generated by the interaction between the service system and the users, characterized by the occurrence of events, a formal model was built, using a Colored Petri Net. To do this, a modelling methodology based on a top-down approach was proposed. Results: A model of the care system was developed and evaluated using Petri nets, based on a case study consisting of the current care model offered by a typical health service provider in Cali called "La Ladera ESE Health Network". The weighted improvements through the proposed system were: greater objectivity of traceability, speed of communication, better quality of rehabilitation, as well as the ability of the new system to contribute to greater precision in the initial diagnosis and subsequent periodic evaluation of recovery. Conclusions: The proposed protocol based on the model made it possible to attend concurrently and accurately diagnose up to three patients, through the implementation of technological aids to improve diagnostic support and allow a subsequent periodic evaluation of the patient´s recovery.
In recent years, agriculture has become an essential activity in Colombia, despite the challenges faced by farmers due to low yields and insufficient resources to improve their main activities, such as irrigation systems, agricultural practices, and industrial machinery. This Hass avocado approach has been addressed in previous research considering system dynamics simulation to evaluate farmers’ behavior strategies and improve their competitiveness. However, these studies typically examine a single strategy effect and avoid multiple integrated strategies. Other studies focused on the complex interactions between different factors in the production chain and their feedback effects on farmers’ productivity and cash flow. For these reasons, this research provides a comprehensively dynamic model and evaluates long-term strategies and their effects on supporting and improving small farmers’ productivity and profitability. A system dynamics methodology was used to model complex systems processing Hass avocado farmer association data and explore their effects on competitiveness for long-term sustainable and profitable agriculture. This research proposes optimal scenarios for small farmers, including strategies such as low-interest credit access, logistics practices, and government technical support. The scenarios provide a proactive tool for decision makers and promote rural farmers’ development, aligning high-quality fresh product supply and demand.
In Colombia, one of the biggest challenges for the oil and gas industry is to generate a sound reputation and a new perception about its benefits to the communities located in the area of influence. Even though, the oil and gas industry generates between 9 to 11% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Colombia, there is a negative perception of local communities due to the impacts of the operations of the industry on the people and environment; as a consequence, the implementation of pedagogical methodologies to educate communities about the sustainable view of the modern Oil and gas Industry, and the importance to the access to energy and water is a need.
In this sense, programs such as Energy4Me and PetrolCopa Reto Escolar have been implemented over the last two years in different regions of Colombia, which have allowed the collection of a considerable amount of data with great technical and social value from more than 10000 participants. This information has been refined, processed and analyzed to show how data science generates added value in the continuous improvement of the methodologies implemented by the data center of SPE Colombian Section; thus, improving relationship between industry and local communities through a fluent communication and knowledge channel.
The analysis of the information and its implementation in these educational programs was carried out through the application of different statistical methods and digital tools for processing and monitoring information, which resulted in the design of optimal processes for the collection of structured and unstructured data such as; community behavior parameters, social problems, demographic characteristics and acquired technical knowledge. This process took into account at the same time other related variables such as the heterogeneity of rural communities, logistical and operational challenges and the social conditions of each region. The data gathering process involved 500 volunteers in more than 5000 people from different regions, ethnic groups, ages, gender and level of education. Once the information was correlated and the methodological approach of the programs improved, trends and direct relationships were established between the data analyzed and the decrease in the rate of rejection by the communities towards Oil and Gas industry in the study regions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
