This paper studies the performance of constant work-in-process (CONWIP) assembly system with multi-loop in mass production, multi-products and low volume and one-of-a-kind production (OKP) environments using simulation. We propose five basic design patterns of CONWIP loop and develop eight control policies of CONWIP loop based on the design pattern for standard assembly system. The performance of developed loop policies is evaluated in three production environments. In particular, control policies of CONWIP loop in OKP environment provide a valuable reference for OKP shop floor controlling. A heuristic algorithm of searching work-in-process (WIP) upper bound, the deadlock phenomenon in CONWIP assembly system and suggestion are introduced specifically. The summary of CONWIP installation guidelines in the mixed assembly system can apply CONWIP theory to practise.

Because of globalisation and an associated global manufacturing environment, cost competitiveness has become necessary. In order to survive, the manufacturing firms have to provide a high level of service to the customers and a high level of throughput with the lowest Work-In-Process (WIP) inventory among other factors. It often becomes difficult to achieve all the objectives by a company management. Implementation of the manufacturing techniques like just-in-time (JIT) or pull production techniques may give the solution. Selection of optimal policy among various JIT policies is another issue which requires a trade-off among performance measures. The most widely used method in the decision making is analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The present paper is devoted to a literature review concerning the applications of AHP in JIT manufacturing environment.

O foco deste trabalho são os ordering systems, os quais são sistemas de informação que programam ou organizam as necessidades em termos de componentes e materiais e/ou controlam a emissão/liberação das ordens de produção e compra, podendo conter ou não regras de seqüenciamento das ordens. Dentro deste contexto, o presente artigo tem por objetivos: apresentar uma nova nomenclatura para os ordering systems, sistemas de coordenação de ordens de produção e compra (SCO); apresentar uma tipologia que permita classificar os diversos sistemas de forma racional; destacar alguns sistemas altamente promissores em termos de aplicação e que são relativamente desconhecidos no Brasil e, trazer à tona um tema importantíssimo dentro do planejamento e controle da produção (PCP) e que está um tanto esquecido na literatura científica nacional.
