El objeto de este estudio fue la identificación de tendencias en la producción de café. Se analizaron estadísticas cafeteras en los niveles mundial y nacional, considerando reportes de la Organización Internacional del Café (ICO), el Sistema de Información Agropecuaria y la Federación Nacional de Cafeteros (FNC). Los factores relacionados con la variabilidad climática, el incremento del precio de producción, la escasez de mano de obra y la volatilidad del precio del café afectan la industria cafetera y pueden ser causas estructurales de las tendencias decrecientes en la producción, encontradas en algunos países productores y en algunos departamentos tradicionalmente caficultores de Colombia.
Este artículo busca identificar oportunidades en mercados internacionales para el plátano fresco y transformado de origen colombiano, a partir del análisis de información obtenida de fuentes secundarias en el que son analizadas las variables de tendencias de consumo, estadísticas de producción, exportación e importación, normativa, restricciones y requisitos técnicos, para el periodo 2013-2017, a las cuales son aplicados los criterios de clasificación de los modelos Uppsala y Vernon. Se identifican los productos con mayor demanda y los países con superior probabilidad de acceso, como propuesta para su incorporación en la estrategia competitiva para los productores y transformadores de plátano en Colombia. El estudio concluye que el producto en fresco presenta una demanda significativa, al igual que productos transformados como plátano congelado, chips y harina de plátano, que pueden ser comercializados con mejores resultados en el mercado norteamericano y europeo.
El Sistema Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación en Colombia ha promovido diversas estrategias para mejorar la Gestión de la Innovación, como la estrategia de crecimiento y desarrollo empresarial denominada Pactos por la innovación. El Programa Alianzas para la Innovación, fase inicial de esta estrategia, ha tenido como propósito impulsar la cultura de la innovación. La Cámara de Comercio de Manizales por Caldas ha liderado la implementación de este programa en el departamento. El análisis de los impactos de este programa se ha efectuado mediante una investigación aplicada de tipo explicativo, con el apoyo de investigadores de la Universidad Autónoma de Manizales. Para su desarrollo, fue diseñado y validado un instrumento para la recolección y análisis de la información, a partir de los lineamientos de la guía de Ruta de la Innovación definida por Confecamaras. La técnica de investigación de entrevista en profundidad fue aplicada a los directivos de las empresas para la recopilación de la información primaria. Este estudio muestra los resultados para las empresas del Sector Solidario. Los impactos del programa Alianzas para la Innovación; las Actividades de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (ACTI); los beneficios, impulsores y barreras para la innovación; el avance en los componentes de innovación y las brechas en la Gestión de la Innovación fueron objeto de análisis. Las estrategias para el cierre de brechas en este estudio de caso ilustran la necesidad de impulsar estos programas de fomento de cultura y mentalidad innovadora, generación de capacidades en el talento humano para la innovación, consolidación de la estrategia y de los procesos de gestión de la innovación, así como la promoción de proyectos de innovación social.
El Triángulo del Café en Colombia está conformado por los departamentos de Caldas, Quindío y Risaralda. Su diversidad geográfica, climática y en suelos permite identificar varios ecotopos cafeteros que se determinan por respuestas similares en productividad. Este artículo presenta la caracterización de estos ecotopos, que fue posible por la disponibilidad de información geográfica de libre acceso, producto de la Ley de Transparencia y Derecho a la Información Pública. La información utilizada para la caracterización está relacionada con geografía, hidrología, clima, geología, suelos y biomas. El análisis fue realizado empleando las herramientas de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica. Los resultados permiten una mejor comprensión de los factores climáticos y geográficos que son determinantes de la productividad cafetera, a su vez brindan lineamientos para la ordenación y planificación del territorio.
