This paper analyzes the links that exist between the perceptions of teachers-in-training regarding the use of digital resources in the Secondary Education classroom and their own methodological and epistemological conceptions. Shulman’s theories continue to largely guide current research on teacher knowledge. However, the impact caused by the new technologies has inspired new approaches like T-PACK, which put the focus on the teachers’ digital competence. In order to address this goal, information has been collected by means of a questionnaire implemented in 22 universities, 13 Spanish (344 participants) and 9 British (162 participants). The analysis of data was conducted along three phases: a) examination of the structure of assessments regarding the usefulness of digital resources by analyzing latent classes; b) estimation of confirmatory factor models for variable evaluation processes, History as a formative subject and historical competencies; c) estimation of interclass differences by using confirmatory factor models. The results showed four types of response regarding the use of digital resources in the classroom that were polarized about two items: comics and video games. Important interclass differences have likewise been found regarding methodological issues (traditional and innovative practices), as well as less important differences concerning epistemological conceptions and views on the development of historical competencies in the classroom.
The present paper reports on a case study performed on the Museum of Calatayud's educational program where the latter is showcased as a didactic model for the museumization of archaeological remains in the Iberian Peninsula (museum and site). This research has been developed by the Spanish Heritage Education Observatory (SHEO) in conjunction with the University of Zaragoza's CIVITAS project. The study shows a qualitative approach and is based on the comprehensive evaluation of the program's educational design and implementation resulting from a previous analysis of a sample consisting of N = 223 educational programs on archeological heritage. The evaluation has been conducted by using the SHEO method, whose aim is to gain deeper insights into educational practices by means of a standards‐based assessment of their underlying designs. Following the results of this study, the Museum of Calatayud appears as a clear benchmark: an institution that stands out because of its holistic conception and an approach that addresses issues of symbolism and identity in order to raise the population's awareness of its legacy and the importance of education inspired by heritage‐related values of respect and protection. Our research enables us to draw up a decalogue of key actions which we do not mean to be transferable to other contexts, but rather to provide an example or a starting point for future educational designs and implementations by the museum community and heritage institutions.
Delibes. Abstract:Spain is one of the countries with the highest volume of internationally recognised cultural heritage, most of which is regulated by state and regional laws. Managing all that heritage to make citizens understand it, know it and feel it as theirs involves educational actions that must be ordered, stable and sustained along time, as well as being solidly grounded. Thus, heritage education is a "key discipline" in heritage management and it aims to encourage citizens to preserve and transmit heritage in a respectful way not only towards the heritage itself but also towards the societies that have guarded and offered it throughout our history. In heritage education, Spain is an international reference with two powerful institutional tools, promoted by the government, aimed at coordinating the State and the Autonomous Communities: the Education and Heritage National Plan and the Estrategias e instrumentos para la educación patrimonial en España Résumé:L'Espagne est l'un des pays avec le plus grand volume de patrimoine reconnu internationalement et a une grande quantité de biens culturels déclarés conformes à la réglemen-tation régionale et de l'état.
