This study investigates science teachers' concerns about how to achieve effective classroom management, with particular reference to classroom communication, student motivation, physical environments and unwanted student behaviors. A qualitative research method is used in this research. The semi-structured interview form is developed by the researchers as a data collection tool. The study group consists of fourteen science teachers who are working in Mugla province of Turkey, in the academic year of 2015-2016. According to the research findings, participating teachers have linked effective classroom communications to such aspects as student participation and a democratic and sincere classroom environment. In addition, they have also stated that effective classroom management are linked to the following: proper material usage, asking questions, feeling the importance of lessons, physical environment, laboratory environment, a Ushaped seating plan, use of an interactive whiteboard, verbal warnings to correct undesirable behaviors, trying to understand the causes of problems, giving responsibility, establishing eye contact, proper punishments, interviewing parents, guiding teachers and sending students to principal's room.
The aim of this study was to investigate the digital literacy skills and metaphorical perceptions of teacher candidates. The mixed approach has been used in the analysis. The quantitative dimension of the study consists of the "Digital Literacy Scale" scores collected from the teacher candidates, and the qualitative component is made up of the metaphors they have developed about the definition of digital literacy. The study was carried out with 297 prospective teachers who are pursuing their education at the Faculty of Education in Turkey. When the results of the study were analyzed, it was found that there was no significant difference between the digital literacy scores of the teacher candidates and the departments in which they were trained, but there was a significant difference in the grade and device ownership variables. The definitions were reached as a result of the study of the metaphors that were grouped under the headings "vitality," "integrity," "guidance," "complexity", and "eternity."
DETERMINING TEACHING STYLES, SELF-EFFICACY BELIEVES AND JOB SATISFACTION OF TEACHERS ABSTRACTThe main purpose of this research is to determine the teaching styles, self-efficacy levels and job satisfaction of Classroom teachers, Science and Technology and Turkish teachers and to find out if there is a relationship among these variables or not. In this study which was designed as correlational survey method, Grasha-Reichmann Teaching Styles Scale, Teacher Efficacy Scale and Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale were used as data collection tools. Totally 235 teachers working in Muğla province participated to the study. According study findings, teachers mostly preferred all teaching styles at a high level. There were significant differences found between female and male teachers on behalf of female teachers only for otoriterian teaching style; and for consultant style between teachers having in-service training and those who didn't on behalf of having in-service training. Also, between teachers' teaching styles and self-efficacy perceptions there was a positive and significant relation as a moderate level (r=.40); between teachers' teaching styles and job satisfaction (r=.30) and also between teachers' self-efficacy and job satisfaction there were positive but low level relations (r=.29) were found.
With the rapid pace of technological and digital change, the use of mass communication and digital communication tools, and internet usage have become very prevalent and thus digital citizenship education has become a necessity for individuals so that they can effectively use these technologies. In this respect, in-class and out-of-class activities play a crucial role in developing students' digital citizenship competencies in social studies education. Teacher candidates' perception of digital citizenship will influence students as well. The objective of the current study is to identify the perception of the social studies teacher candidates towards digital citizenship. A descriptive cross-sectional screening model was utilized in the study. The sample of the study is composed of senior teacher candidates attending the Social Studies Teaching Department, Faculty of Education of Ege University in the 2016-2017 academic year. Digital Citizenship Attitude Scale was employed to identify the perceptions of teacher candidates towards digital citizenship. The analysis of the results in the context of subdimensions indicates that no statistically significant difference was found by the gender variable, however significant differences was observed in digital citizenship levels of the teacher candidates according to the variables of owning a personal computer, age and years of experience in computer use.
