Objective: to present and discuss conceptual bases and methods for evaluating the content, construct and criterion validity of self-reported measuring instruments. Method: theoretical study based on the concepts of the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments and those evaluated in the Evaluating the Measurement of Patient-Reported Outcomes, which includes concepts of instrument assessment to assess patient-reported outcomes. Results: validity is significant for the methodological quality of an instrument; however, it is a relative criterion, since it depends on the adequacy of the instrument to be measured. There are three different validity measurement properties described in the literature: content, construct and criterion validity. Conclusions: as validity is an important property, it is recommended that it be verified in studies that aimed to develop new scales and in those that adapted and validated for another culture or population.
The biosafety of innovative procedures that utilize stem cells in regenerative medicine has been addressed in several studies. Previous work has showed no tumour formation following the use of feline and human amniotic membrane-derived stem cells (AMSCs). In contrast, tumour formation was observed when canine AMSCs were utilized. These findings suggested that feline and human, but not canine, AMSCs are suitable for cell transplantation trials. This study aimed to further evaluate the feasibility of utilizing canine AMSCs for transplantation purposes as well as for felines. We
Objective: to present and discuss conceptual bases and evaluation methods that support important properties of measurement instruments.Method: a theoretical study based on the international and national literature and the Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments e Evaluating the Measurement of Patient-Reported Outcomewhich contemplates concepts of evaluation of instruments for the evaluation of results reported by the patient. Initially, the concepts of reliability, responsiveness and interpretability are mentioned and discussed, as well as the main ways of evaluating the properties Results: it can be seen that there are still differences in some conceptual descriptions. However, the authors emphasize the importance of reliability in order to evaluate the measuring instrument. It is important to note the importance of knowing and understanding the Conceptual Model, the properties of measurements and the different evaluation methods that guarantee reliable and valid results, especially in the instrument validity studies. Conclusions: the discussion presented on reliability, responsiveness and interpretability which contributes to health professionals with theoretical knowledge, and a critical sense in the choice of instruments and in conducting analyzes on these measurement properties.DESCRIPTORS: Data accuracy. Psychometry. Validation studies. Surveys and questionnaires. Precision of dimensional measurement.

Objective: to analyze and summarize knowledge concerning critical components of
interventions that have been proposed and implemented by nurses with the aim of
optimizing self-care by heart failure patients. Methods: PubMed and CINAHL were the electronic databases used to search full peer-reviewed
papers, presenting descriptions of nursing interventions directed to patients or
to patients and their families and designed to optimize self-care. Forty-two
studies were included in the final sample (n=4,799 patients). Results: this review pointed to a variety and complexity of nursing interventions. As
self-care encompasses several behaviors, interventions targeted an average of 3.6
behaviors. Educational/counselling activities were combined or not with cognitive
behavioral strategies, but only about half of the studies used a theoretical
background to guide interventions. Clinical assessment and management were
frequently associated with self-care interventions, which varied in number of
sessions (1 to 30); length of follow-up (2 weeks to 12 months) and endpoints. Conclusions: these findings may be useful to inform nurses about further research in self-care
interventions in order to propose the comparison of different modalities of
intervention, the use of theoretical background and the establishment of endpoints
to evaluate their effectiveness.
The aims of this study were to adapt the Body Image Quality of Life Inventory (BIQLI) into Brazilian Portuguese (BP) and to assess the psychometric properties of the adapted version. Construct validity was assessed by correlating the BIQLI-BP scores with the Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale, with Burns Specific Health Scale-Revised (BSHS-R), and with gender, total body surface area burned, and visibility of the scars. Participants were 77 adult burn patients. Cronbach's alpha for the adapted version was .90 and moderate linear correlations were found between body image and self-esteem and between BIQLI-BP scores and two domains of the BSHS-R: affect and body image and interpersonal relationships. The BIQLI-BP showed acceptable levels of reliability and validity for Brazilian burn patients.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
