Objective To analyse how therapeutic play structured in a nursing care model contributes to the care of hospitalised children. Method This is a qualitative study based on convergent care research (CCR). Seven children participated in the study. Data were collected in September and October of 2014 by means of interviews with open-end questions and participant observation of therapeutic and dramatic play sessions and/or instructional play sessions based on the stages "Welcoming/Playing/Concluding" of the nursing model Care with Play. Data were analysed according to the analysis and interpretation stages of the CCR. Results The following three categories emerged: Meanings attributed by the child to hospitalisation and its influence on nursing care; Perception of the therapeutic procedures through therapeutic play, and Importance of the family in care. Final considerations It is concluded that the application of therapeutic play structured in the care model contributes to systematic and specialised nursing care.
This quantitative, survey type study aimed to analyze the patient safety culture of the nursing and medical teams of public hospitals of Florianopolis. A total of 141 professionals participated, with data collected between February/April 2013, after approval by the Ethics Committee. The Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture was used and the 12 dimensions of the culture were evaluated. Descriptive analysis was performed, classifying the dimensions into areas of strength or critical areas. Despite not verifying a specific area of strength, the dimensions with the best evaluation were Supervisor/manager expectations and actions promoting safety and Organizational learning -continuous improvement. The dimensions with the highest percentage of negative responses, identified as critical were: Non-punitive response to errors and Management support for safety. The safety culture in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units presented aspects that could potentially become areas of strength. Cultural changes are necessary, especially in addressing errors.
Qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study. The aim of this study was to discover how nursing professionals perceive the communication during shift handover and its repercussion in pediatric patient safety. This study was performed at a Pediatric Inpatient Unit of a University Hospital in the South of Brazil. Data was collected by a semi-structured interview, involving 32 nursing professionals. To analyze the data, thematic analysis was used. Data was grouped in categories: shift handover and its interface with communication. The results evidenced the importance of shift handover, in which effective communication is essential for safe care. However, greater objectivity is needed in the information transmission, the time used needs to be reduced and the shift handover records need to be systemized.
Objective: to know the contributions of simulation regarding the training of caregivers of children with special healthcare needs, in the preparation for hospital discharge. Method: descriptive-exploratory study, with qualitative approach, carried out with caregivers of children with special healthcare needs. The study was developed in a simulation center of a public university in the South of Brazil, in partnership with a state reference children's hospital. The training program was based on simulations, using low, medium and high fidelity simulators, in which 15 caregivers participated. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and submitted to content analysis, in its thematic modality. Results: two categories emerged: simulation as a learning strategy and implications of training for home care. The simulations allowed the improvement of procedural skills and coping with possible complications in the home setting. Feelings of fear and anxiety were initially triggered, especially in the high fidelity simulation. However, after the training, the caregivers felt relieved, self-confident and satisfied with their performance, highlighting the importance of the support provided during the simulations. They reported having greater confidence to perform the procedures on the child and face the challenges of home care. Conclusion: the simulation was considered a valid strategy for the training of caregivers, stimulating empowerment and self-confidence in the face of complex care required by a child with special healthcare needs. The study innovates by exploring the potentialities of simulation in this context, bringing important contributions to qualify the home care of this clientele.
