The goal of this research is to investigate grammatical errors in speaking performed by tour guides in Gorontalo city. As demanding English is a compulsory language for those who work in the tourism sector when they deal with foreign tourists. This study aims to uncover grammatical errors produced by Gorontalo tour guides. Afterwards, this research uses sequential mixed method that proposed by Creswell, which aims to investigate and discover the types of grammatical errors followed by modus data. Moreover, the data analysis of this study uses a guideline that proposed by Politzer and Ramirez who explained the types of grammatical errors in detail. This study reveals that the ability of 12 tour guides produce speaking in a grammatically low manner. It indicates that the number of grammatical errors is dominated by the verb phrase, noun phrase and transformation. Followed by third person present singular, simple past tense, and past participle. Overall, this research is expected to contribute to tour guides in Gorontalo city, especially what needs to be emphasized by tour guides in speaking grammatically.Keywords: grammatical errors; tourist guide; Gorontalo

The aim of this research is to find out the types of morphological interference on students' English writing. Through qualitative research method applying a design of the case study, twenty of university students were chosen. Data were collected from written tests and classified based on the Politzer and Ramires (1973) on theory of Linguistic Category. The results revealed that, whilst it is inevitable that the English morphology features governed by the distinctive rules and systems have been the potential target for interference taking place, Bahasa Indonesia, which stands as the official language, becomes the source of transfer. From six types of morphological interference based on Polizter and Ramirez� (1973), in this study the writer only found three of them. These types encompass of the morphological properties from the use of article, plural marker and simple past tense. Furthermore, there are 40 morphological mistakes in total, in which four mistakes represent the intralingual transfer and 36 data describe the interference. In terms of the mistakes made as a result mostly from the interference transfer. This study makes a significant contribution to the teaching and learning process of linguistic interference.Keywords: linguistic interference; morphology; students� writing.

Academic writing seems daunting for novice writers. Unveiling cognitive processes of experienced writers in academic writing can presumably aid novice writers, primarily writing for publication. The purpose of this research is to explore the cognitive processes of experienced writers who have published articles in reputable journals in writing scientific articles. Three experienced writers participated in the study: one from the social science and two from the STEM fields. Thematic analysis following the six phases of Braun and Clark (2006) was conducted to analyze the interview data from three experienced writers. The findings from the interview generated five themes: search, topic, research, writing, and publication. These emerging themes have similarities with the previous academic writing models but expand some actions toward the publication process. The themes reflected the steps taken by the experienced writers who participated in the study in producing their published articles. This study focus on the hedging devices types proposed by Namasaraev in relation with the participants’ confidence which consisted of female and male participant toward Seminar on Language presentation. The study expects to reveal the propensity of hedging in female and male speeches. This study applied qualitative descriptive method to describe the data in which using documentation by recording the participants’ speech. The result, it proved that both participants contributed fifth types of hedging devices. In female participant, those types are modal auxiliary verb, lexical verb, approximation, ‘if’ clause, and filler. As same as female participant, the male produced same types unless the type of ‘if’ clause and produced the adverb type. The findings displayed the female participants were frequently produced the filler type in which indicated the lack of confidence. Meanwhile, the male participants preferred to use modal auxiliary verb in which delivering the assertiveness and certainty. This study expected can be guidance for the readers who want to know more about hedging, also this can be source for further researcher who interested in the same fields.

Writing ability is one of English skills that need to be mastered by students. It is because students must express their idea well in order those readers can easily understand what students write. Moreover, many students� problems are found in writing such as generating idea, lack of vocabulary, grammatical mistakes and so on. Regarding the occurrence of problem in mostly students� writing, the researchers want to improve students� writing skill in descriptive text by implementing write-around plus strategy. The purpose of conducting this research is to investigate whether the implementation of write-around plus strategy can improve students� writing skill or not. This study is conducted by a pre-experimental study with measurement as the technique of collecting the data and written test as the tool of collecting the data. The research participants were 25 students as the eighth grade students in junior high school SMP Negeri 1 Gorontalo in academic year 2018/2019. The result of this study shows that there were improvements in all writing aspects such as fluency, grammar, vocabulary, content and spelling. The improvements of students� writing can be shown by data analysis, namely the average result of the research for pre-test got 9.04 score and it currently has been increased in post-test about 13.4 score.

This thesis presents the language style used by Jimmy Fallon in The Tonight Show talk show. The objective of this study is to investigate the types of language style used by Jimmy Fallon in his talk show based on Joos’s (1967) theory. This research applied descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research were taken from the talk show video and the video transcript. The main theory which was used in this research was taken from Five O’clock book by Martin Joss (1976) and the book of An Introduction to Sociolinguistics by Janet Holmes (1992). The result of this research showed that the researcher has found 29 conversations that contain types of the language style based on Joos’s (1967) theory. As the result, it finds consultative style with 11 data and casual style with 18 data, which casual style becomes dominantly used.

This research aim to find out to find out (1) Whether the implementation of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) increase the students� achievement in reading comprehension at the students of MA Al-Huda Gorontalo. (2) Which aspects of reading get the highest increase in the implementation of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR).This research conducts quantitatively which used per-experimental research. The sample of this research is 20 students of the second grade at MA Al-Huda Gorontalo. Reading comprehension test, specifically exposition text is used to collecting the data. The test was an objective test and it used to collecting the data pre-test and the post-test. The result of the pre-test was 261 and the post-test was 341. The hypothesis found that the Tcount ≥ Tlist by the value 9,756 ≥ 2,093. It proves that the Hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Thus, the conclusion is the Collaborative strategic reading (CSR) increases the students� reading comprehension at MA Al-Huda kota Gorontalo.Keywords: Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR); reading comprehension.
