The process of mathematical critical thinking of junior high school students through discovery learning AbstractThis study aimed to describe the process of mathematical critical thinking of students who were given discovery learning in mathematics learning. This study was classified as qualitative research. The research subjects were 6 students drawn from 37 students of class VII-E MTsN 3 Aceh Barat, Indonesia, and selected based on their initial mathematical abilities. The research instruments included researchers, critical thinking test, and interview guidelines. The data collection was carried out by giving a critical thinking test conducted after discovery learning and interviewing the research subjects after completing the test. The data in this study were analyzed by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that in solving problems, students were more dominant in the process of specializing and generalizing. Students have been able to identify the problem presented and arrange possible steps for solving the problem, but in the process of conjecturing and convincing, students still need to be trained in analogizing problems and solving problems in a variety of ways. The findings of this study could be used by teachers to design mathematics learning that exercises critical thinking skills.
The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students' mathematical communication and disposition abilities taught with discovery learning models. This study us quantitative approach with the type of experimental research and the research design us pretest and posttest design type experiments. The sample was chosen randomly from two classes of 7th grade in one of public junior high school in Sigli, Aceh. The research instrument used was mathematical communication ability test and mathematical disposition questionnaire. The data analysis of students' communication and disposition ability was done by two-way ANAVA test at a significant level of 0.05. The results showed that the improvement of students' mathematical communication and disposition skills taught with discovery learning models was better than those taught with conventional approaches. Furthermore, there was no interaction between discovery learning model and the level of students towards improving communication skills and mathematical dispositions. Therefore, the mathematics teachers can implement discovery learning models in learning to build the next polyhedron. Future researchers should conduct research at other schools in order to improve students' mathematical communication skills in mathematics learning
Kata kunci: Pendekatan pendidikan matematika realistik, kemampuan operasi hitung perkalianAbstract This research was conducted to know the activity, learning result, and student's response to learning using Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on multiplication counting material. This research is a Classroom Action Research which carried out three cycles. The subjects were 33 fourth grade students of SD Negeri 46 Banda Aceh. Data collection was done by using formative test of student learning result, student activity observation sheet, and student response questionnaire. The results showed that the expected student activity in the learning process was improved by using RME approach on multiplication counting material in class IV SD Negeri 46 Banda Aceh. There are 40% of active student activity, the second cycle is 80% active student activity, and in 100% cycle 100% active student activity. Furthermore there is also an increase in the ability of student counting operations multiplication in each cycle. The cycle-I is 33.3% complete, the IIcycle is 63.6% complete, and the III-cycle is 96.97% complete. Student response is also very positive on the learning by using PMR approach on the material of multiplication operation in class IV SD Negeri 46 Banda Aceh.
The ability to think creatively is important to create students who can use mathematical mindset in their daily activities, and in various sciences. The conditions at school this time show us that students still run into problems in resolve math questions which related to mathematical creative thinking ability that finally impact on the result is low for this ability. Therefore, we need strategy for mathematics learning so it can improve mathematical creative thinking ability for students. The strategy that can be applied are through Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, dan Transferring (REACT). This research aims to know the improvement creative thinking mathematical ability for students through react strategy. The type of this research is experimental research with a quantitative approach. The populations in this study are students in class X SMAN 1 Banda Aceh. The sample in this study is students in class X MIA-3 as an experimental class that gets learning with REACT’s strategy, and students in class X MIA-1 as a control class that has conventional learning. The instrument of this research is the questions of pretest and post-test. The quantitative analysis using a test independent sample t-test. Based on the results of data analysis it can be concluded that improvement creative thinking mathematical ability for students by teaching with REACT’s strategy is better than improvement of students' creative thinking skills by teaching conventionally.
