The concept of self-regulation in learning has been assuming a rising importance in the literature once the research has suggested that students participate actively in their learning process, monitoring and regulating their study process to achieve self-set goals. Nevertheless, the information about self-regulation has not been yet systematized on the journals indexed in Scielo. Therefore, the current study performed a systematic review of the literature on Scielo.org, between the period 2001 and 2011 to analyze the existence evidence regarding: a) the nature of self-regulated learning, b) it's assessment, c) the promotion of self-regulated skills and their usefulness in the context of education, and d) the potential implication of teachers on the promotion of lifelong learning.
The current investigation aims at assessing the effectiveness of an intervention program designed to enhance self-regulated learning (SRL) strategies at the university level, with students from different cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds. The central tool of the program is a set of letters in which a fictional first-year student describes his experiences as an SRL student. The program was implemented in four universities in different countries and continents (Portugal, Spain, Chile, and Mozambique), with an experimental group and a comparison group at each university (263 students from experimental groups and 247 from comparison groups). Findings display the effectiveness of the program in enhancing a set of motivational variables related to the study process and the use of SRL strategies. Data were consistent across the different cultural and academic contexts in which the program was implemented. The implications of these findings for university administrators and faculty are discussed.
Introduction: Daily life experiences provide maturity along human development, and the environments in which they occur are essential for this process. These experiences help to build children's personalities and the way they deal with the world around them. Objectives: In this study, we aimed to understand the occupational behavior of four children aged five to six years old through their mothers' reports. Methodology: The average time spent with daily activities is described, and playing was a central theme of analysis. We analyzed the preferences, companies and emotional characteristics of the play activity. We used an Activity Clock and semi-structured interviews with the children's mothers as data collection instruments. Results: The main results show that most of their daily life time is spent with sleep, school and play activities.
The history of OT in Brazil shows that initially the profession and the subsequent employment of these practitioners into the workplace opened the possibility of new fields of practice that in turn required changes to the profile and role of these specialists and also to their professional education 2,3,4 . The aim of this article is to describe an overview regarding the development of OT undergraduate programmes in Brazil. A mapping of the distribution of existing educational programmes in Brazil will also be reported through an historical overview. HISTORICAL OVERVIEWDuring the seventies, the profession did not offer opportunities for practitioners to improve their knowledge effectively, despite programmes relating to methods and techniques that focused on intervention in the traditional areas of the profession such as physical dysfunction and mental health. At the end of that decade,
Introduction: Human occupations and activities are central themes in occupational therapy studies and interventions in Brazil, although there is no consensus on the use of these terms in the country. Objective: This research aimed to analyze part of the national scientific production of occupational therapy about the use of the terms of occupation and activity. Method: A scoping review of the literature was carried out between 1980 and 2017, using SciELO.br and the Brazilian journals of occupational therapy, using the keyword 'occupational therapy' associated with the words 'activity', 'occupation', and 'occupational performance'. The sample consisted of 155 articles, the first one being published in 2002. Results: The publications relate to eight fields or areas of occupational therapy and cover 95 different topics. The term "activity" was used in 128 articles, in 22 "occupation and activity" and only 5 used "occupation". The term "activity" was defined as an instrument of the profession or related to the action of the subjects. The term "occupation" was defined as fundamental for the organization of human life considering that the activities are part of human occupations. Regarding the theoretical perspectives, the studies that used the "activity" present several theories or theoretical and methodological constructions. Those who have adopted "occupation" and "activity and occupation" refer to specific theoretical models. Conclusion: With this review, we verified that the terms present theoretical meanings and perspectives that accompany the plurality intrinsic to the profession and are based on historical partner constructions.
