In this paper, we present a CAD tool for the synthesis of asynchronous control circuits using basic gates such as AND gates and OR gates. The synthesized circuits are speed-independent; that is, they work correctly regardless of individual gate delays. We present synthesis results for a variety of specifications taken from industry and previously published examples. We compare our speed-independent circuits with those non-speedindependent circuits synthesized using the algorithms described in [ I ] , in which delay elements are added to remove circuit hazardr. These synthesis results show that our circuits are on average approximately 25% faster with an area penalty of only IS%. This work demonstrates that direct synthesis of gate-level speed-independent circuits is not only feasible, but also produces robust and relatively efJrcient circuits compared to those synthesized with timing constraints.
A new class of neural prosthetic systems aims to assist disabled patients by translating cortical neural activity into control signals for prosthetic devices. Based on the success of proof-of-concept systems in the laboratory, there is now considerable interest in increasing system performance and creating implantable electronics for use in clinical systems. A critical question that impacts system performance and the overall architecture of these systems is whether it is possible to identify the neural source of each action potential (spike sorting) in real-time and with low power. Low power is essential both for power supply considerations and heat dissipation in the brain. In this paper we report that several state-of-the-art spike sorting algorithms implemented in modern CMOS VLSI processes are expected to be power realistic.
Hypermethylation of DNA in promoter CpG islands is related to transcriptional silencing of tumor suppressor genes. Histone H3-K9 methylation in different regions of the promoters studied correlates with DNA methylation status of each gene in gastric cancer cells. However, histone H3-K9 acetylation and H3-K4 methylation inversely correlate with DNA methylation status of each gene in gastric cancer cells. Alteration of DNA methylation affects histone modification.
Abstract-The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires full and equal access to healthcare services and facilities, yet studies indicate individuals with mobility disabilities receive less than thorough care as a result of ADA noncompliance. The objective of our pilot study was to assess ADA compliance within a convenience sample of healthcare clinics affiliated with a statewide healthcare network. Site assessments based on the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities were performed at 30 primary care and specialty care clinics. Clinical managers completed a questionnaire on standard practices for examining and treating patients whose primary means of mobility is a wheelchair. We found a majority of restrooms (83%) and examination rooms (93%) were noncompliant with one or more ADA requirements. Seventy percent of clinical managers reported not owning a heightadjustable examination table or wheelchair accessible weight scale. Furthermore, patients were examined in their wheelchairs (70%-87%), asked to bring someone to assist with transfers (30%), or referred elsewhere due to an inaccessible clinic (6%). These methods of accommodation are not compliant with the ADA. We recommend clinics conduct ADA selfassessments and provide training for clinical staff on the ADA and requirements for accommodating individuals with mobility disabilities.
A novel organic-inorganic composite, sorbic acid intercalated zinc aluminum layered double hydroxides (SA-ZnAl-LDHs) has been successfully assembled by a simple direct coprecipitation method. A holistic approach including normal XRD, FT-IR, and UV-Vis measurements and simultaneous TG/DTA/MS and in situ HT-XRD techniques was employed to explore the supramolecular intercalation structure and the thermal decomposition properties of as-synthesized SA-ZnAl-LDHs material.
