There is a constant search for drugs to fight infections effectively. Herbal medicines are presented as options that, in addition to having great therapeutic potential, generally have low cost. Literature data show that rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) has antimicrobial activity. Thus, the objective of this work was, through the existing literature, to verify whether R. officinalis has therapeutic and antimicrobial properties in pathological conditions of the oral cavity, and can be used for treatments of mouth infections. In the present review, the databases used for screening were: Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO) and PubMED, using the following descriptors: "Rosemary" "Rosmarinus officinalis", "Antimicrobial action", "application in Dentistry", “Phytotherapy in Dentistry”, isolated or in combination, in Portuguese and English. The studies were analyzed according to the year of publication, publication period and results found. Among the researches evaluated, only 3 did not show significant results regarding their antimicrobial action. In other studies, it was found to be effective against fungi, bacteria, viral agents and to inhibit the formation of oral biofilms. Thus, the literature points to the effectiveness of R. officinalis as an antimicrobial in relation to fungi and pathogenic bacteria in the mouth, having a clinical application in the treatment and prevention of diseases of the oral cavity.
Occlusopathies are a high prevalence problem characterized by a set of anomalies in the face of deviations in dental alignment, in the relationship between the dental arches and/or between the maxillary bones. The literature shows a direct relationship between occlusopathies and parafunctional habits in early childhood. From this perspective, understanding the etiology of occlusopathies to prevent or intercept these deviations becomes essential, in view of the difficulty in treatment for the correction of future problems. The aim of this study is to verify in the existing literature the relationship between occlusopathies and parafunctional habits in early childhood through studies of malocclusions in children. Scientific articles covering the period 2000 to 2020 of Scholar Google platform, CAPES Periodic Portal, Scientifc Eletronic Library Online (SciELO) were selected, using as keywords: Pediatric Dentistry; Malocclusion; Public Health. Among the deleterious sucking habits, digital, bottle and pacifier suction are among the most common. In addition, the absence of breastfeeding has an intimate relationship with these alterations. Therefore, malocclusion is one of the public health problems in Brazil, being essential public policies to bring information to parents and/or guardians, encourage breastfeeding and make them aware.
It is called the tooth that, when the chronological time of eruption arrives, remains partially or totally enclosed within the alveolar bone, with preservation or not of the pericoronal follicle. When not associated with any disorder, they can be used. Among the methods of utilization of impacted teeth, we can mention the accompaniment, orthodontically assisted eruption or transplant. The objective of this study was to report two cases of use of included teeth. Case 1 - Female patient, 15 years old, leucoderma, normossystemic, was referred by her orthodontist for orthopedic traction of elements 13 (upper right canine) and 23 (upper left canine) included. Clinical intraoral examination revealed absence of the same. The treatment consisted in the surgical exposition of elements 13 and 23 by the technique of apical repositioning of the flap (open technique) and orthodontic button gluing for posterior traction. Case 2 - Female patient, 20 years old, feoderma, normosystemic, presented for exodontia of element 37 (second molar inferior left). The intra-oral clinical examination revealed great coronary destruction in said element by dental caries. Due to the impossibility of other treatments, it was planned to remove the same and subsequent autogenous transplantation of element 38. We chose to perform the transplantation in a single (immediate) session. It is important for the dental surgeon to know and know the techniques of tooth utilization, as well as their advantages and disadvantages, in order to optimize their use and minimize the inconveniences arising from dental inclusion.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
