There is a constant search for drugs to fight infections effectively. Herbal medicines are presented as options that, in addition to having great therapeutic potential, generally have low cost. Literature data show that rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) has antimicrobial activity. Thus, the objective of this work was, through the existing literature, to verify whether R. officinalis has therapeutic and antimicrobial properties in pathological conditions of the oral cavity, and can be used for treatments of mouth infections. In the present review, the databases used for screening were: Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO) and PubMED, using the following descriptors: "Rosemary" "Rosmarinus officinalis", "Antimicrobial action", "application in Dentistry", “Phytotherapy in Dentistry”, isolated or in combination, in Portuguese and English. The studies were analyzed according to the year of publication, publication period and results found. Among the researches evaluated, only 3 did not show significant results regarding their antimicrobial action. In other studies, it was found to be effective against fungi, bacteria, viral agents and to inhibit the formation of oral biofilms. Thus, the literature points to the effectiveness of R. officinalis as an antimicrobial in relation to fungi and pathogenic bacteria in the mouth, having a clinical application in the treatment and prevention of diseases of the oral cavity.
It is called the tooth that, when the chronological time of eruption arrives, remains partially or totally enclosed within the alveolar bone, with preservation or not of the pericoronal follicle. When not associated with any disorder, they can be used. Among the methods of utilization of impacted teeth, we can mention the accompaniment, orthodontically assisted eruption or transplant. The objective of this study was to report two cases of use of included teeth. Case 1 - Female patient, 15 years old, leucoderma, normossystemic, was referred by her orthodontist for orthopedic traction of elements 13 (upper right canine) and 23 (upper left canine) included. Clinical intraoral examination revealed absence of the same. The treatment consisted in the surgical exposition of elements 13 and 23 by the technique of apical repositioning of the flap (open technique) and orthodontic button gluing for posterior traction. Case 2 - Female patient, 20 years old, feoderma, normosystemic, presented for exodontia of element 37 (second molar inferior left). The intra-oral clinical examination revealed great coronary destruction in said element by dental caries. Due to the impossibility of other treatments, it was planned to remove the same and subsequent autogenous transplantation of element 38. We chose to perform the transplantation in a single (immediate) session. It is important for the dental surgeon to know and know the techniques of tooth utilization, as well as their advantages and disadvantages, in order to optimize their use and minimize the inconveniences arising from dental inclusion.
The objective of this study was to investigate in the literature which as oral and facial manifestations of anemias, addressing their etiological characteristics for better dental care in patients with this comorbidity. For this, a narrative review of the literature was carried out with articles published from 2000 to 2020 in the online databases PubMed (National Libary of Medicine) and SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) using the descriptors and synonyms MeSH: "Anemias" in association with "Oral Manifestations". Of the 583 articles, 35 were used in this study. It was observed that the main anemias that presented oral signs were iron deficiency, hemolytic, megaloblastic, sickle cell and thalassemia. It was reported, mainly, the yellowish color in the oral mucosa and skin, as well as periodontitis, bone hyperplasia, osteomyelitis or even the loss of dental vitality from the infarction of local vascularization. Thus, it is extremely important for the dentist to understand the characteristics of this manifestation in order to correctly manage these patients, since some approaches may worsen the anemic picture.
Objective: To identify the level of knowledge of students of the Dentistry Course at the Federal University of Campina Grande, campus of Patos, regarding dental autotransplantation as a treatment for oral rehabilitation. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, observational study, with an inductive, descriptive approach, adopting a specific questionnaire as a strategy for data collection, applied to 143 graduates regularly enrolled from the 5th to the 10th period of the dentistry course, between the year 2019 and 2020. Aspects covered: characterization of students and information related to dental autotransplantation (concept, indications, contraindications and factors that influence the success of treatment). Results: Most of the interviewees were female. There was a satisfactory level of knowledge about the indications, contraindications, advantages and the need for no loading of the self-transplanted tooth. Conclusion: Despite not being a common procedure in clinical practice and dental education, within the methodology used in this study, it was possible to observe a satisfactory level of knowledge among dentistry students at UFCG, Patos-Paraíba about dental autotransplantation.
