Purpose This study aims to compare the performance of stocks of companies with high brand equity with the stocks of other companies listed on the stock market of emerging countries of Latin America: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Design/methodology/approach The valuable brands (brands with high brand equity) considered were the most valuable Latin America brands according to the Millward Brown reports. Carhart four-factor model was used to analyze performance and the total sample included 732 stocks in the Latin American market collected at Economatica, monthly, for a period of 10 years. Findings The Valuable Brands Portfolio presents the lowest investment risk, suggesting that stocks of companies with valuable brands ensure lower risk investment to shareholders in these emerging markets. Originality/value This study is the first to associate brand equity with the creation of shareholder value in the context of emerging Latin American countries. In addition, the proposed method has also not been used previously to study emerging countries. The association found between a marketing asset (brand equity) and stock market performance contributes to improve the relationship between marketing and finance areas. The results of this study in emerging markets corroborate previous studies in developed markets, strongly suggesting the confirmation of the effect of brand equity on the reduction of risk stock.

As comunidades virtuais apresentam ampla gama de efeitos culturais, incluindo a influência no comportamento do consumidor (KOZINETS, 2002).A maioria das pesquisas existentes sobre comunidades virtuais se encontra na literatura de sistemas de informação (LEE, VOGEL e MOEZ, 2003), mas outras disciplinas, como Antropologia, Psicologia, Marketing e Administração, também compreendem a sua importância (PORTER, 2004).Dentre esses estudos, Bagozzi e Dholakia (2002, p. 3) destacam que os pesquisadores que buscam compreender as comunidades virtuais têm adotado "a análise do paradigma de rede social ARTIGOS -TENDÊNCIAS SOBRE AS COMUNIDADES VIRTUAIS DA PERSPECTIVA DOS PROSUMERS

O valor da marca é um importante construto a ser estudado porque é associado a benefícios-chave tanto para os consumidores quanto para as empresas, de forma que existe um crescente reconhecimento de que as marcas são recursos capazes de melhorar o valor ao acionista. O presente estudo visa verificar os estudos relativos ao valor da marca realizados no Brasil. Para tanto, primeiramente revisa conceitos e construtos existentes. Após, aponta alguns modelos de mensuração e, por fim, realiza um levantamento, dentre algumas das principais publicações brasileiras de administração, sobre os trabalhos realizados atinentes a esse tema. O levantamento dos estudos demonstrou que, nos últimos anos 2007 e principalmente 2006 , ocorreu um crescimento dessas pesquisas, mas ainda há um amplo caminho para esses estudos no Brasil. Muitos estudos são de caráter teórico-conceitual, existindo espaço para avanços em pesquisas de caráter empírico. Crê-se que ainda haja espaço para pesquisas que relacionem o desempenho da marca ao desempenho empresarial, seja lucratividade ou valor ao acionista. Também existe uma carência de estudos que observem concomitantemente a perspectiva de valor dos consumidores e das empresas. Dentre as contribuições que essa pesquisa buscou oferecer destacam-se, além dos conceitos, modelos e estudos levantados, a indicação de futuras pesquisas no Brasil.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the differences and similarities between two methods/models for estimating customer equity (CE): one using behavior-based data and one using market-based data. Design/methodology/approach Two separate analyses of the same market scenario (telecom industry) were conducted, by applying the CE estimation method from Rust et al. (2004) and the CE model from Gupta et al. (2004). Findings Different methods/models can produce similar estimates, which corroborates the defense of an integrated multi-method approach to evaluating CE. In addition, they each provide different benefits. The behavioral data model provides identification of CE drivers and assists in the task of marketing resource allocation, the market-based data model is simple and easy to implement and is recommended in cases when CE is used as a financial indicator. Originality/value This paper contributes to the CE literature in the following ways. First, it demonstrates the possibility of obtaining similar estimates of CE using distinct types of data and data collection procedures, and with two different estimation methods/models. Second, it confirms that either model allows firms to compute the expected market capitalization at any given time using customer and financial information. Third, it demonstrates the convergent validity of these two methods/models for estimating CE for either public or private companies, thus legitimizing the comparison of their respective CE values, regardless of the type of source data or estimation formula used.
