Developing teeth are commonly the criteria used for age estimation in children and young adults. The method developed by Cameriere et al. (Int J Legal Med 2006;120:49-52) is based on measures of teeth with open apex, and application of a formula, to estimate chronological age of children. The present study evaluated a sample of panoramic radiographs from Brazilian children from 5 to 15 years of age, to evaluate the accuracy of the method proposed by Cameriere et al. The results has proven the system reliable for age estimation, with a median residual error of -0.014 years between chronological and estimated ages (p = 0.603). There was a slight tendency to overestimate the ages of 5-10 years and underestimate the ages of 11-15 years.
Tolerance to various effects of morphine in the rat can be quantified by means of a shift of semi-logarithmic dose-response curves. Tolerance to analgesia (hot plate, acetic acid writhing), catalepsy, and the tilted plane develops in a closely similar manner. Also, the stimulating effects of about 1 mg/kg morphine-HC1 tested in an open-field procedure are somewhat less pronounced in chronically treated rats than in naive ones. There is no correlation between tolerance development and the acute ED50 of different tests.
Nanoparticles are one of the most commonly used systems for imaging or therapeutic drug
delivery. Exosomes are nanovesicular carriers that transport cargo for intercellular communication.
These nanovesicles are linked to the pathology of some major diseases, in some cases with a central role
in their progression. The use of these carriers to transport therapeutic drugs is a recent and promising
approach to treat diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer disease. The physiological production of these
structures is limited impairing its collection and subsequent purification. These drawbacks inspired the
search for mimetic alternatives. The collection of exosome-like nanoparticles from plants can be a good
alternative, since they are easier to extract and do not have the drawbacks of those produced in animal
cells. Both natural and synthetic exosome-like nanoparticles, produced from serial extrusion of cells or
by bottom up synthesis, are currently some of the most promising, biocompatible, high efficiency systems
for drug delivery.
