Effects of IBA concentration, collection time and cutting length on hibiscus cutting propagationVegetative propagation by tip cutting can be influenced by factors such as collection time, cutting length, auxin concentration and cutting physiological status. The ornamental Hibiscus (Hibiscus sp.) is commercially propagated by cuttings. Therefore, there is a need to study the influence of these factors on the rooting capacity of this specie. The aim of this work was to evaluate the IBA effect, cutting length and collection time on Hibiscus tip cutting propagation. The experiment was carried out in the plant production sector of the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, Campus Dois Vizinhos, Dois Vizinhos, PR (Brazil). The experiment was arranged in a 3 x 2 x 2 factorial completely randomized block, (IBA concentration x cutting length x collection time), with four replications, with each plot consisting of ten cuts. Two collecttion times (June and September), two shoot cutting lengths (6 and 12 cm) and three IBA concentrations (0; 1 and 2 g L -1 ) were tested. At the two collection times, after 77 days, the rooting percentage, numberRecebido para publicação em 22/03/2010 e aprovado em 08/06/2011

FIELD OF THE LIMBO FOLIAR OF CASTANHEIRA-DO-BRASIL WITH LINEAR MEASURES ABSTRACT: In this work, models of estimation of the leaf area of the species Bertholletia excelsa Bonpl. (Brazil nut) from the linear measurements of the leaf blade. 1500 leaves were collected in different positions of the crown of adult and young trees (depending on the reproductive cycle), using 1000 and 500 leaves for calibration and statistical validation, respectively. Leaf length (C), width (at the center of the leaf, at the base and at the apex) and leaf area (AFR) were obtained as measures of leaf limb. Statistical performance evaluation (validation) was performed using the mean error (MBE), root mean square error (RMSE) and Willmott's index of adjustment (dW). Only the width measure at the center of the leaf and the length are sufficient to estimate the area of the leaf of B. excelsa., Which can be given by the equation AF = {0.8743 * {(C * L) 0.9790]} -1.84, regardless of leaf position and plant age. Keywords: Bertholletia excelsa; regression analysis; statistical indicatives.
Aiming to support projects and managements of irrigation for vegetables in the Mid-North region of Mato Grosso state, Brazil, this paper determined crop evapotranspiration (ETc), crop coefficients (Kc) and water response function of summer squash (Curcubita pepo) cv. ‘Italiana’ under different cultivation conditions. The plantations were conducted in the dry season of the region (July to October 2016), using 2.5 kg m-2 of millet straw (grass) and crotalaria straw (legume) and bare soil. ETc was obtained by soil water balance through tensiometry, whereas Kc values were given by the ratio between ETc and the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) obtained by the FAO-56 Penman-Monteith method. For the water response function, the rates of 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120% ETc were applied, in which case the Class A pan method was used to obtain ETo. The different soil covers did not influence the ETc, Kc and accumulated thermal sum in the phenological stages of the summer squash. Kc values were 0.1, 0.25, 0.38 and 0.41, for the phenological stages I to IV, with average durations of 8, 46, 16, and 20 days, respectively. Increase in irrigation depths did not influence the rates of production of male and female flowers, but affected yield and decreased water use efficiency, regardless of soil cover.
The thermal requirements for the phenological stages of squash cv. 'Menina Brasileira Precoce' were evaluated. The experiment was conducted in a Red-Yellow Dystrophic Oxil soil and Tropical Climate (Aw), with six winter/spring planting dates
