Estimating reference evapotranspiration with limited meteorological dataAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the estimate of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) for the Southeast Region of Brazil using limited meteorological data. The FAO 56 Penman-Monteith method (PM p ) was used as reference. Three scenarios of limited meteorological data, obtained from automatic network stations, were used for estimating ETo: standard method (PM p ), with solar radiation estimated from the balance between short and wide wavelengths (PM Krs ); standard method using vapor pressure estimated from minimum and maximum temperatures, and from air relative humidity (PM ea ); and standard method using constant wind speed (2 m s -1 ; PM u2 ). ETo was also estimated by the Hargreaves-Samani (HS) and Turc methods. The models were analyzed by statistical indicators of mean absolute deviation (MBE), relative error (RE), root mean square error (RMSE), and Willmott index (d). The PM ea method is the best alternative to estimate ETo, followed by PM u2 , for the states of Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro, and PM Krs , for the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The largest errors are obtained with the Hargreaves-Samani method, which overestimated ETo compared with PM p , for most of the evaluated stations.
Palavras-chave: métodos de estimativa, Penman-Monteith-FAO, Hargreaves-Samani, manejo de irrigação Reference evapotranspiration in the region of Seropédica-RJ using weighting lysimeter and mathematical models AB S TR ACTThe present study aimed to evaluate the estimate of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) for the region of Seropédica, RJ, correlating measures obtained with weighing lysimeter and Penman-Monteith -FAO 56 (PMF), Hargreaves-Samani (HS), Camargo (CA), Priestley-Taylor (PT), Makking (MA) and Pan Class A (PCA) methods. The values of ETo estimated by PMF, PT and MA were well correlated to those determined by the weighing lysimeter, whereas the HS and CA methods showed unsatisfactory adjustment with the lysimeter data. The estimated mistakes from the adjusted methods for the region of Seropédica are acceptable for use in design and management irrigation systems. Another interesting alternative is the use of the Pan Class A method, due to the feasible handling and low cost, so that it can be installed near the field.
Utilizaram-se medidas da radiação solar global e número efetivo de horas de brilho solar da estação Ecologia Agrícola ABSTRACTThe reference evapotranspiration (ETo) is dependent on the amount of energy available in the environment, being solar radiation (SR) as an important variable in its estimation. This study was carried out in order to determine the coefficients "a" and "b" of the Angstron-Prescott equation for Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, and to evaluate their effects on the SR and ETo estimation. Measures of global solar radiation and effective number of hours of sunshine were used from station Ecology Fund (83741 -INMET) for the period of 2000 to 2007. The coefficients were determined by linear regression analysis for the entire period and monthly and yearly periods. Using the calculated coefficients and those proposed by FAO (0.25 and 0.50) SR and ETo were estimated and evaluated their performance. The average monthly coefficients "a" ranged from 0.232 to 0.299 and "b" from 0.397 to 0.504. Annual mean coefficients "a" and "b" were 0.295 and 0.417, and for general period were 0.282 and 0.433, respectively. The best performance observed for the estimated SR and ETo was obtained when the monthly coefficients of the equation Angströn-Prescott were adopted.
-The objective of this work was to estimate the global radiation by simplified models for the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The parameterized coefficients of 15 simplified models were regionally calibrated to estimate the daily global radiation, based only on air temperature, using data from 28 automatic weather stations (AWS) of the network of the Brazilian Meteorology Institute, distributed throughout the different biomes of the state of Mato Grosso. The simplified models are mostly derived from the Hargreaves and Bristow & Campbell methods, with different parameterized coefficients to be calibrated. The coefficient of determination (R 2 ), the mean bias error (MBE), the root mean square error (RMSE), and Willmott's d index were used to evaluate statistical performance. For the recommendation of models per station and/or biome, the models were rated numerically Index terms: air temperature, Amazon, Cerrado, parameterized coefficients, solar radiation. Reference evapotranspiration estimated with simplified models for the state of Mato Grosso, BrazilAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of 12 simplified models for the estimation of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) for the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The data were collected from automatic weather stations (AWS) of the Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia, located in 28 municipalities of the state. The following simplified estimation models were evaluated: Hargreaves-Samani, Camargo, Makkink, Linacre, McGinness-Bordne, Romanenko, Turc, Holdridge, Solar Radiation, Jensen-Haise, Hansen, and Caprio. The Fao 56 Penman-Monteith method (FPM) was used as reference for assessing the simplified estimates. Statistical performance was evaluated through relative mean error (RME), root mean square error (RMSE), Willmott's d index, and according to the numerical order of models for each index. The Makkink model overestimated ETo by 2.0 to 3.0 mm per day, with scattering values of 2.75 mm per day and 0.40 d index, which represented the worst results among models, regardless of the municipality evaluated. The Turc and McGinness-Bordne models showed the best performances for estimating ETo in 57.1 and 25% of the AWS, respectively. The Romanenko, Makkink, and Holdridge models are not recommended for the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil.Index terms: minimum data, Turc model, Penman-Monteith, solar radiation, air temperature.
Evapotranspiration, crop coefficients and water use efficiency of the bell pepper crop in different cropping systems. The objective of this study was to determine the crop evapotranspiration (ETc), crop coefficients (kc) and water-use efficiency (EUA) of the bell pepper crop in the no till system (PD) and conventional tillage system (PC), in the Fluminense Valley, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. The irrigation was managed and the evapotranspiration demand quantified by calculating the daily soil water balance using the TDR technique and data collected in an automatic meteorological station. It was verified that the accumulated ETc at 181 days after planting (DAT) was 363 and 335 mm for PD and PC, respectively. The kcs obtained were 0.32, 1.18 and 0.77 and 0.34, 1.05 and 0.86, for the PD and PC systems, respectively, in the initial (0-40 DAP), middle (81-120 DAP) and final (181 DAP) growth phases, respectively. The kc values for the bell pepper crop presented by FAO were similar to the values found for the PC, but are not recommended for PD. Considering the total depth applied (rain and irrigation), the average values of water use efficiency were 3.9 and 4.5 kg m -3 for PD and PC, respectively.
