Racionalidade. Identidade coletiva. Análise do discurso. AbstractThis paper aims to propose a perspective on identity in organizational studies, considering an integrative view of identity as everyday practices, practices as discursive practices, and discursive practices as oriented by rationalities. Oriented by different rationalities, individuals are capable of practicing either an authentic or an instrumental identity in their current lives. Applying this assertion to organizational contexts, we emphasize the importance of studying individuals in relation to collective levels. According to Ramos' (1981) theory on the delimitation of social systems, in different worlds of social life, individuals are allowed to act according to different rationality types. On the other hand, considering Ciampa's (2003) concept of metamorphosis identity, we can also state that individuals are capable of practicing an authentic identity in instrumental-oriented contexts. In this way, they transform themselves and transform repressive conditions. Therefore, researchers willing to comprehend identity processes in organizational contexts are expected to identify emergent groups, i.e. collective identities, and then analyze the relationship between collective and individual rationalities in order to reveal identity construction. This paper presents a theoretical articulation of our proposal and, in the final part, indicates possible methodological paths to operationalizing it.
Palavras-chave:Significado do trabalho, Executivos, Envelhecimento. AbstractIt was recognized that the meanings of work maybe different for individuals depending on various factors such as profession, age, socio-historical context. This article aims to investigate the meanings that former executives with over sixty years of age attribute to work after retirement from their managerial functions. It was investigated eighteen former executive managers in the process of aging, intentionally chosen because of their age and the job position they had occupied. The process of data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews, analyzed by Discourse Analysis. It was noted that the varied forms of work provide meanings to life, help maintaining some forms of status and power and contribute to the maintenance of professional identities. In addition, they also minimize the social and physical effects of aging.
In this study we investigate the shifting of modes of governing municipal waste, from disposal (wasteto-landfill) to waste as a resource (sustainable recycling). To this end, we frame this study combining the modes of governing approach developed by Bulkeley, Watson and Hudson with Bruno Latour's sociology of translation approach (or Actor-Network Theory-ANT). Within this double framework, we investigate practices that emerge from the attempts made by multiple stakeholders to shift modes of governing waste. This study contributes to the modes of governing waste in particular and, to environmental policy implementation studies in general. We posit that shifting governing modes involves (i) the construction of human-nonhuman networks that support the stabilization of a particular governing mode; (ii) consideration of the role of nonhumans, their agency and materiality and; (iii) the acknowledgement that counter-networks and unintended consequences are likely to emerge. When we add to this view the role of politics, a more complex, dynamic, and rich picture of the phenomenon surfaces.
