n this paper we deal with forms of moral violence at work involving male homosexuals in the Distrito Federal, (Brazil). We interviewed Brazilian gay workers to register their life histories and their reports of discrimination suffered because of their sexual orientation. The collected data underwent content analysis under two main categories: life in society and life in organizations. The main results reveal the existence of an explicit and non-explicit moral violence context, and of omission by the upper hierarchy as regards these practices. We conclude that this study contributes to an understanding of moral violence at work, showing the need for organizations to work on the prevention and combat of discrimination at any level.
This study aims to discuss the development of higher education courses in Management in Brazil in the 1940s and 1950s based on the cooperation agreements made between Brazil and the United States of America. The study begins with a brief discussion of the methodology used to collect the data. This is followed by a discussion regarding the bilateral relations between the two countries. This is followed by considerations on the higher learning courses in Management that were made possible by support from the United States and a reflection on the agreements themselves. The conclusion reached is that the so-called "Americanization" of Management in Brazil is deeply rooted and that to build more self-awareness and strengthen it, it is necessary to reflect on the constitution of the field and how foreign models are received and articulated. The study ends with suggestions that future studies could further the discussion included in this article and that specific studies on the history of higher education courses in Management in Brazil should be conducted, especially that involving agreements with other institutions. Keywords: Americanization. History of Management. Agreements between Brazil and the United States. The purpose of this article is to identify and analyze social representations of femininity and masculinity, as reported by women business executives in Brazil. For that, the research resorted to semi-structured interviews of sixty-four executives from seven Brazilian cities. As a technique for data analysis, this research utilized the theoretical and conceptual basis of French discourse analysis. When gender issues become related to the specific qualities of being a woman and a business executive -or to the interfaces that gender may establish with an individual's work -contradictions may emerge from the construction of a particular thematic. Also, positive and negative aspects of being a female executive exist, namely: (a) representations of an executive; (b) feminine competency and incompetency; (c) dilemmas regarding sensitivity; (d) conflicts involving seduction power; (e) omissions, prejudice and violence suffered by women at work; and (f) motherhood.

This article presents a critical analysis of the relocation of street peddlers in Belo Horizonte, Brazil to the Shopping Popular indoor markets of the city. In its attempt to "clean up" downtown through such relocation, city council affected the dissolution of the informal work of the city's peddlers and toreros and increased the precariousness of the political and social conditions these vendors face at work. We conducted a site visit and gathered data using discourse analysis, interviews, and desk research. We argue that city council's public focus on urban revitalization served as a pretext that allowed for the serious social problems underlying the peddler issue to go unaddressed.
