This study was divided in two phases with the following goals: the first one focused on the description of the professional counselor profile, and the second one was dedicated to the identification of contents that need to be included in the specialized training in professional counseling. To carry out this research, we have applied a mixed methodology (quantitative and qualitative), and the data gathering was based on different types of data sources: an online questionnaire, personal interviews, review of specialized documents, and information from diverse audiences. The validation of the online questionnaire was developed through consultation with key informants. The samples selected for both phases was incidental and the statistical analysis were mainly quantitative and descriptive. From the results derived, we stand out the following: a) the recognition, need and demand of quality career guidance, b) the identification of key competencies for the professional counselor, and c) the consensus on core contents that allow to start with the design of specific postgraduate training. Conclusions in this study reveal the existence of a social interest in formal university training, as well as specialized vocational guidance, agreement on core contents, and the recognition of the contribution of a postgraduate proposal to cover this particular gap in the Spanish University academic offer.
ABSTRACT This article explores the profile and specific functions of the figure of the e-mentor, within the framework of a distance university master's degree, within a program designed to facilitate the academic adaptation of new students. Specifically, the elements that are present in the configuration of the mentor's profile are studied within a context of postgraduate distance education. The study is approached from the experience and perceptions of the mentors themselves. A mixed design is used for this, combining a quantitative analysis (descriptive and analysis of clusters based on rating scales) and qualitative analysis (content analysis, from a discussion group and an open questionnaire), triangulating, finally, both sets of results. There is a high general satisfaction with the accompaniment work itself, and the emergence of certain socio-emotional competences present in the role of mentor and that seem to play a key role, such as accompanying at times of difficulty, motivate and offer emotional support. It concludes about the importance of socio-emotional competencies to exercise this role and the need to stay within the limits of the functions that correspond to this figure; as well as, in addition, the convenience of clarifying said role to the students who are beneficiaries of the program. It also concludes about the relevance of specific training in mentoring techniques for this profile.
ABSTRACTThis paper briefly reviews the historical evolution of guidance in Spain, focusing in the Professor Elvira Repetto Talavera from the perspective of her academic and scientific contribution, and in her role promoting guidance, particularly from the community of practice perspective. We analyse the current state of the institutionalisation of guidance in Spain since the nineties, describing three subsystems that are evolving in parallel but with almost no mutual interconnection: primary and secondary education, university and vocational training, and transition to work. We conclude that, among the challenges that remain, there is the need for a greater professionalisation of the guidance role and for working towards an integrated guidance system that ensures coherence and quality.
