Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between sustainable operations practices (SOP) and performance. Design/methodology/approach This study was conducted through a systematic literature review followed by a meta-analysis of correlations. Findings In the results, 14 of the relationships examined showed a positive relationship and 12 the presence of moderators. The study findings indicate that contingency affects the relationship between SOPs and performance. Research limitations/implications The research presented in this paper is mainly limited to databases that were searched. Among the quantitative articles selected from the databases, many did not have the data needed to conduct the meta-analysis, which may have limited the results of this study. Practical implications Using the results of this study, practitioners can become aware of to the occurrence of moderating factors in the relationships, which can range from interference from other practices and variables to characteristics of the organization itself or the market in which organizations operate. Originality/value This study uses a multidimensional approach for both SOP and performance. This approach allowed a more complete and comprehensive result, showing how these SOPs influence the different categories of performance, expanding the understanding of the relationship between practices and performance.
Nonprofit organizations play a relevant role in Brazilian society. In recent years, Brazil has faced frequent allegations of mismanagement of resources and corruption in different administrative spheres, including state-owned and private enterprises. In this scenario, transparency is essential to nonprofit organizations. Resource mobilization is a key management activity of nonprofit organizations that provides the achievement of the social objective of the organization. This chapter aims to analyze the influence of transparency on the resource mobilization of Brazilian nonprofit organizations. In order to achieve this goal, a survey was developed. Data from 93 Brazilian non-profit organizations were collected. The main contribution of study is that transparency has significant impact on resource mobilization in Brazilian nonprofit organizations.
PurposeContinuous understanding of the best practices associated with new product development is a constant research opportunity to advance knowledge in the field, as far as changes in the business environment and the increasing turbulence level in different market segments create and reposition the importance of practices over time.Design/methodology/approachBased on a systematic review, the study aimed to analyze the 100 most relevant articles published in international journals on new product development (NDP), identifying new patterns on the best practices for new product development and the types of relationship involved in NPD.FindingsAmong the several practices observed in the literature, the analysis point to a larger group of studies that converge on the identification of a positive and significant relationship in integration – simultaneously – between supplier, company, customers and strategic alliances and the performance of NPD.Research limitations/implicationsThese results support integration as a cross-cutting and structural best practice for NPD, as long as it is constituted as a capacity, mainly applied in highly turbulent environments. This approach supported the proposition of a new framework.Practical implicationsOrganizations will be able to implement the proposed framework to NPD strategy in order to prioritize resources in best practices, aiming to increase the performance of new product development.Social implicationsThe adoption of integration and co-creation practices for the development of new products expands the possibilities of economic and social development, based on the involvement of the actors in this network.Originality/valueThis model had not yet been proposed in the literature, filling a gap in the agenda for future studies.
PurposeThe purpose of this study is to analyze the relationships among four types of sustainable operations practices and sustainable performance in the environmental, economic and social dimensions and identifies significant moderators.Design/methodology/approachIn order to achieve the proposed goal, this study was developed through a systematic review of the literature followed by a meta-analysis of the correlations and by a meta-regression. The sampling criteria were quantitative operations management articles published through 2019.FindingsThe results suggest that all 13 analyzed relationships are positive and are affected by moderators.Research limitations/implicationsIn theoretical terms, this study reinforces the positive relationship between sustainable operations practices and performance and, more importantly, detects moderating effects. One of the study limitations is the composition of the sample, focusing exclusively on quantitative correlational articles published in journals.Practical implicationsIn practice, the findings of this study imply that managers should be vigilant in implementing sustainable operations practices, observing the conditions in which more of these practices can be implemented into performance.Originality/valueThis study differs from others because it includes the social dimension of sustainable performance and the identification of moderators.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
