Purpose The purpose of this paper is to describe the results of the construct validity by the known-groups method of a Brazilian cooking skills and healthy-eating questionnaire. Design/methodology/approach Responses obtained from university students (n=767) for Brazilian-Portuguese cooking skills and health eating questionnaire, surveyed online, were submitted to construct validity comparing two known groups. The t-test was used to compare differences between gender (male and female) and the level of cooking knowledge (high or low) in each measure of the questionnaire. Internal consistency was evaluated by obtaining the Cronbach’s coefficient. Findings Women showed significantly higher means than men in all scale measures, except in the self-efficacy for using basic cooking techniques (SECT), where no differences were found. Students classified as having high cooking knowledge and had higher score means in all scales compared to the students with low levels. Internal consistency was adequate for all scales (a>0.70), except for cooking attitude (CA) (a=0.33) and cooking behavior (CB) scales (a=0.59). Research limitations/implications SECT likely depends on cooking knowledge, independent of gender, suggesting further examination. Items and structure of CA and CB constructs also need to be examined more deeply. Practical implications A validated cooking skills and health-eating questionnaire demonstrated its ability to detect differences between groups, useful to provide data for further interventions. Originality/value No available cooking skills questionnaires were found that have been validated by the known-groups method regarding differences between gender and individuals’ level of cooking knowledge, as conducted in this study.
Objective: To report the use of virtual reality (VR) in pain intensity during dressing change of two burned children hospitalized in a Burn Treatment Center (BTC) in Southern Brazil. Method: Case report on the use of VR during dressing change of two burned children hospitalized in a BTC, from May to July 2016. For assessing pain, a facial pain rating scale was applied at four times: just before the dressing, during the dressing without the use of VR, during the dressing with the VR, and after the use of VR. Results: The use of goggles was easy to apply and well-accepted by the children, and also had a relevant effect reducing pain. Conclusion: VR can become an important nonpharmacological method for treating pain in burned children.

Some of the aspects mentioned by the participants, such as work and leisure activities, need to be further researched in order to improve our understanding of the impact that these changes causes in the person's life.
Objective: to build and semantically validate a safe communication tool to systematize care transition in pediatric clinical and emergency units. Method: a methodological study, based on the Classic Theory of Psychometric Tests and on the Instrument Development Model, proposed by Pasquali, which included seven professionals, five nurses and two physicians, experts in pediatrics and/or patient safety, who followed specific criteria for inclusion. Data collection was carried out between November and December 2016 and took place with the application of a form made available to the experts via the Google Drive/Microsoft® tool in two validation rounds, conducted by the Delphi Technique, being organized into two domains with 19 items. Data analysis was performed by calculating the Content Validity Index. Results: in order to validate the content, it was necessary to reach a Content Validity Index ≥ 0.80; thus, in the first round, five items underwent changes and were adjusted according to the experts' recommendations. These were validated in the second round, maintaining two domains and nineteen items. Conclusion: the construction and content validation of the instrument can enhance and qualify the clinical practice and contribute to minimize failures in pediatric patient safety associated with effective communication.
