Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar a densidade e diversidade de grupos da comunidade de macrofauna invertebrada do solo sob diferentes sistemas de produção, bem como analisar a similaridade entre os sistemas avaliados. O trabalho foi conduzido no Município de Dourados, MS, em Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico típico, sob os seguintes sistemas: sistema convencional (SC), sistema plantio direto (SPD), sistema integração lavoura/pecuária (SILP), pastagem contínua (PC) e vegetação nativa. As amostragens foram realizadas em três safras de verão e de inverno. Os valores de densidade total da comunidade de macrofauna invertebrada de solo, nos sistemas SPD, SILP e PC, foram similares, no entanto, o SPD apresentou a maior diversidade de grupos. Na safra de verão, observou-se similaridade entre os sistemas SPD e SILP e entre o SC e PC; e na safra de inverno, a similaridade foi entre os sistemas SPD, SILP e PC.Termos para indexação: manejo do solo, similaridade, densidade, diversidade. Soil invertebrate macrofauna under different production systems in a Hapludox in the Cerrado RegionAbstract -The objective of this work was to quantify the density and diversity of soil invertebrate macrofauna community, in different production systems, and also to evaluate the similarity among them. The study was carried out in the Municipality of Dourados, MS, Brazil, in a Typic Hapludox under the following systems: conventional system (CS), no-tillage system (NTS), crop/livestock integration system (CLIS), continuous pasture (CP) and natural system. Samples were collected during summer and winter cropping seasons. Total density and diversity of the soil invertebrate macrofauna community in the NTS, CLIS, and CP systems were similar. However, NTS showed the highest diversity. In summer, similarity was observed between NTS and CLIS, and between CS and CP, with regard to the soil invertebrate macrofauna community. In winter, similarity was among NTS, CLIS and CP.

HighlightsBiological nitrogen fixation (BNF) is a key process for soybean production in Africa.The selection of elite African indigenous soybean Bradyrhizobium strains is a feasible strategy.Eighty-seven isolates were obtained from soybean nodules in Mozambique.Isolates fit into the Bradyrhizobium (75%) and Agrobacterium-Rhizobium (25%) clades.Five Bradyrhizobium isolates with outstanding symbiotic performance were obtained.

The aim of this study was to estimate water erosion costs associated with nutrient losses in four different rates of artificial cover. The experiment was carried out from 1987 to 1996 in runoff plots to measure soil losses in Campinas, State of Sao Paulo, in an Ferralsol under natural rainfall. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four treatments (0%, 24%, 40% and 90% artificial cover) and three replications. To estimate costs, P, K + , Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ concentrations in runoff water and soil removed by erosion were summed up, converted into triple superphosphate, potassium chloride and dolomitic limestone and multiplied by their respective market prices. The results indicate that, under the experimental conditions, the greater the percentage of soil cover, the lower the losses of water, soil, organic matter and nutrients. The soil with 90% cover presented reduction of 51.97% in average water losses, 54.44 in soil losses and 54.91% in organic matter losses than the treatment with 0% cover. In bare soil, losses were estimated at 16% P 2 O 5 and 8% KCl in terms of the amount of fertilizers recommended. Costs varied from US$ 107.76 ha -1 year -1 in bare soil (0% cover) to US$ 18.15 ha -1 year -1 in soil with 90% cover. With these values, losses were estimated at 616.5 million tons of soil per year for Brazil, as a result of soil erosion in annual crops, and cost of this process is around US$ 1.3 billion per year.

RESUMOAs pastagens abrangem cerca de 50 milhões de hectares na região do Cerrado. Os Latossolos, ocupando aproximadamente a metade da área, são solos intemperizados, constituídos, principalmente de caulinita, óxidos de Fe e Al e estes óxidos têm grande influência na retenção de P. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os teores totais de P, assim como sua disponibilidade e retenção em Latossolos sob pastagens do Cerrado, e relacionar estes dados com suas características mineralógicas, granulométricas e químicas. As relações entre as características estudadas foram avaliadas por meio da análise de componentes principais e correlações de Pearson. O P disponível resina mostrou-se correlacionado negativamente com as características mineralógicas e granulométricas e positivamente com os teores de matéria orgânica do solo. Tanto os óxidos livres totais como os amorfos tiveram correlações negativas com o P remanescente (Prem). Os teores de gibbsita, goethita e hematita apresentaram correlações negativas com o Prem. Por outro lado, a caulinita não exerceu influência sobre o Prem, indicando a baixa participação desta na adsorção de P nos Latossolos do Cerrado. Observou-se correlação negativa entre o Prem e o C total, explicada pelo fato de o estoque de C aumentar linearmente com o conteúdo de argila e silte no solo. Os óxidos de Fe e Al foram os componentes mineralógicos que exerceram maior influência sobre o Prem.Termos de indexação: disponibilidade de P, sorção de P, fósforo remanescente, óxidos de Fe e Al.(1) Recebido para publicação em maio de 2007 e aprovado em março de 2008.
