AbstractThis paper seeks to investigate how radio journalism contents' circulation reconfigures itself in a period of consolidation of digital communications' platforms, such as social media and microblogging services, which support the construction of online and offline social networks. It starts with the premise that these platforms leverage not only commercial radios range but also community broadcasting. Particularly, it will analyze digital audio distribution and circulation strategies at the Brazilian collaborative portal Radiotube, that comprehends a network of over 1,400 communitary, commercial, and web radios from all over the country.

It is assumed that these new enterprises of the digital environment experience more intensely the conflicts between divergent interests, making it a privileged object of study on the current situation of the creative destruction of the music industry. By adopting a socioeconomic approach to communication and culture markets, we conducted an exploratory case study based on the description and subsequent analysis of user experience in these programs and the monetization strategies of musical consumption. Finally, it is considered that streaming services are under pressure from other music industry players to rethink their current business model, and we comment on the likely effects upon the organization of the music industry in the digital age. Keywords: streaming services, music industry, new business models. This article brings the results of an investigation into the role of WhatsApp audio messages in the 2018 Brazilian presidential elections, proposing that instant voice messaging borrows elements from radio language. We started from a broader research, conducted by the Brazilian National Institute of Science and Technology in Digital Democracy (INCT.DD, in its Portuguese acronym), which identified a network composed of 220 WhatsApp groups – all of them with open-entry links – supporting six different candidates. Those groups put together thousands of anonymized profiles linked through connections to similar groups, configuring an extensive network. More than 1 million messages, including 98,000 audios, were gathered and downloaded during 2018 Brazilian electoral period (from June to October). We focused on eighteen audios with major circulation (totalling 3622 appearances) among the ones shared at least 100 times, which were extracted and analysed. The use of radio content analysis techniques pointed out strong evidence that audio messaging remediate radiophonic elements such as intimacy and colloquial language to accelerate disinformation campaigns.

ABSTRACTThis article brings questions about the new logics of production, distribution, and consumption of radio contents in a media convergence environment. Radio expansion towards digital platforms reconfigures communicational practices, accelerating capital concentration, but also creating opportunities for new actors -telecommunications companies, in particular. Furthermore, the new place of radio is analyzed, as a cultural industry that hesitates between old electromagnetic radiowaves broadcasting, and a new digital world of content offer multiplicity, and diffusion channels. The paper focuses on commercial radio, discussed in four dimensions: 1) technology; 2) business; 3) professional; and 4) contents.
