Karyological studies were performed on Hyoscyamus species of Iran. The species studied showed variation with regard to chromosome number and details of karyotype. Two different basic chromosome numbers of x=14 and 17 were recorded for the genus corresponding to the two subgenera of Hyoscyamus. Chromosome numbers of six species are reported for the first time.
Twelve populations of six Lvcium species were analysed for karyotypic characters and seed storage proteins using multivariate statistical methods. All reported chromosome numbers (mostly new) are 2n = 24 (x= 12). Karyotypes were symmetrical and placed in 1A and 2A classes of Stebbins' karyotype classification. Cluster analysis of karyological and protein data revealed variations among the populations of L. depressant and L. ruihenieum, and supports close relationships of L. kopetdaghi and L. depressum with L. makremicum, and L. shawii with L. edgeworthii.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
