Peroxiredoxins are often encountered as double spots when analysed by two-dimensional electrophoresis. The quantitative balance between these two spots depends on the physiological conditions, and is altered in favour of the acidic variant by oxidative stress for all the peroxiredoxins we could analyse. Using HeLa cells as a model system, we have further analysed the two protein isoforms represented by the two spots for each peroxiredoxin. The use of selected enzyme digestion and MS demonstrated that the acidic variant of all the peroxiredoxins analysed is irreversibly oxidized at the active-site cysteine into cysteine sulphinic or sulphonic acid. Thus, this acidic variant represents an inactivation form of the peroxiredoxins, and provides a useful marker of oxidative damage to the cells.

RESUMO: Pesquisa bibliográfica na modalidade revisão integrativa da literatura, descritiva e abordagem qualitativa cujo objeto trata da formação de enfermeiros na graduação, considerando os fundamentos que embasam o processo ensino-aprendizagem. Os objetivos foram: caracterizar as abordagens teóricas e metodológicas da produção científica acerca da formação dos enfermeiros e analisar as tendências pedagógicas que norteiam a formação do enfermeiro na graduação. Selecionaram-se sete estudos publicados entre 2008 a 2012. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de conteúdo temática. Com base nesta análise, emergiram duas categorias empíricas-propostas pedagógicas de ensino e mundo do trabalho em saúde e enfermagem; e a formação e o perfil do enfermeiro para o Sistema Único de Saúde: aspectos legais. Evidenciou-se uma forte articulação entre o processo de formação do enfermeiro com sua prática profissional no mundo do trabalho em saúde. RESUMO Objetivo Descrever e analisar, sob a percepção das lideranças de enfermagem, questões de gênero e socioeconômicas dos trabalhadores da categoria que interferem na luta contra a precarização das condições de trabalho. Método Estudo descritivo, exploratório, com abordagem qualitativa, realizado na ABEn, Coren, sessões Rio de Janeiro e SindEnfRJ, com líderes de entidades de classe, profissionais de cargos de liderança, incluindo diretoria ou presidência. Realizaram-se entrevistas individuais, e os dados foram tratados por meio da técnica de análise de conteúdo. Resultados Participaram do estudo 17 líderes de entidades de classe. Se nas falas predominância feminina, dupla jornada de trabalho, origem social e cultural, desvalorização profissional, reduzida participação em espaços de luta e questões burocráticas do trabalho como justificativas para o baixo envolvimento em disputas trabalhistas. Conclusão São necessárias parcerias entre a categoria e as entidades de classe para maior mobilização e combate a esse processo perverso, por mudanças na legislação, imprescindíveis para viabilizar a manutenção do emprego, a qualidade de vida do trabalhador e, consequentemente, a excelência na assistência prestada à população.

Objective: to analyze women's perceptions regarding non-compliance with the Companion Law, focusing on their legally constituted right and the feelings they experience during birth and delivery.Method: a descriptive-exploratory research of qualitative nature, in which data were collected from four hospitals in the Metropolitan Region II of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), between January and July 2014. Fifty-six hospitalized women were interviewed in their respective shared rooms. Thematic content analysis technique was used for analyzing the information and the guidelines for humanization of public policies for assistance in birth and delivery, considering the perspective of reproductive rights.Results: two thematic categories emerged: Women's lack of knowledge influencing non-compliance with the Companion Law; the Companion Law as a security/safety tool for women in labor. The interviewees reported non-compliance with the aforementioned Law by health institutions and health professionals during birth and delivery, resulting in a moment permeated by negative feelings resulting from stress, emotional wear and tension in the disregard for the couples' reproductive rights. Método: este estudio descriptivo y exploratorio, de naturaleza cualitativa y los datos se obtuvieron de cuatro hospitales de la Región Metropolitana II del Estado de Río de Janeiro (Brazil), entre enero y julio de 2014. Se entrevistaron a 56 mujeres admitidas en su alojamiento conjunto. Se utilizó la técnica de análisis de contenido, modalidad temática para el tratamiento de la información y las directrices de las políticas públicas de humanización de la atención del parto y el nacimiento, teniendo en cuenta la perspectiva de los derechos reproductivos. ConclusionResultados: dos temas surgieron: El desconocimiento de las mujeres como influencia en el incumplimiento de la Ley del acompañante; y la Ley como instrumento de seguridad para las mujeres en proceso de parto. Los entrevistados reportaron el incumplimiento de la mencionada Ley, por las instituciones de salud y los profesionales durante el parto y el nacimiento, permeando este momento de sentimientos negativos resultantes del estrés, el desgaste y las tensiones por la falta de respeto a los derechos reproductivos de la pareja.Conclusión: la Ley del Acompañante debe ser mejor promovida como los derechos reproductivos de las parejas, lo que garantiza la seguridad del proceso del nacimiento y la inhibición de los actos de violación de sus derechos. In this scenario, by collecting data for the research, the nurses contributed to the promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment, as recommended by the Millennium Development Goals.

The characteristics of pregnant women in prenatal consultation are described in this article in a quantitative approach. The aim of this study is to identify this group by sketching its epidemiological profile. 118 attendance reports dated from January to June 2003 were investigated in the obstetrics service in a city of Rio de Janeiro public hospital. The analysis showed that the highest percentage is comprised of women in the age group of 19-25 years (39.8%); that are married (38.9%); have basic consultation between 14 and 17 weeks of pregnancy (18.6%); had previous vaginal birth (79%); have basic school education (29.6%); are housewives (33.8%); have more than one child (58.4%); and did not mention complaints in the first consultation (39%). It can be concluded that obstetric consultation can substantially help reduce morbi-mortality of pregnant women, since it makes possible the guiding of intercurrences and the prevention of troubles during and after the period of pregnancy.

O tema violência intrafamiliar na concepção dos formadores dos profissionais de saúde

The present study aimed at studying the social representations of the sexual life of climacteric women. Its theoretical-methodological referential was based on the Theory of Social Representations. Study participants were 40 women between 45 and 65 years of age, who were divided into two groups: perimenopause and postmenopause. Scenarios were two public units of health services for women in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. Data were collected through the semistructured interview technique and treated according to the analysis of thematic content. Results indicated three representation fields. Two fields emerged in the perimenopause group: continuity of sensuality and sexuality, and representation of the negativity in climacteric leading to a sexual life without pleasure. The postmenopause group was organized into one representational field: sexual life based on the aging process. The authors concluded that the representations regarding sexual life in climacteric are being redesigned by some women despite many conceptions that still persist in association with traditional socio-historical-cultural values regarding women and the aging process.
