AbtractThis text aims to rethink the relationship between Brazilian feminisms and the state. Dialogue and continuous tensions are grounded in the feminist agenda that not only presupposes a cultural revolution regarding subjectivities, but that also exacts a notable reform or political revolution. On the one hand, while addressing violence against women is gaining ground, on the other, education for gender equality and the legalization of abortion suffers what has been called "backlash". There is a clash between neoconservatives movements that seek to imposed their moral viewpoint on the whole society and feminist movements that defend the ethics of individual autonomy, plurality and social rights.
The present article discusses the recent neo-conservative movement in Brazil led by the Agribusiness and Evangelical Congressional Caucuses. Both fronts built and consolidated a confluence of objectives and political linkages in the National Congress to confront access to human rights. Neoconservative narratives centered on the “moral agenda” and based on the manipulation of Christian religious values have grown in Brazil’s public scene, countering concepts of gender equality, sexual diversity and reproductive rights. At the same time, an agenda of “legal certainty”, based on the interests of agribusiness, has dismantled environmental protection policies and blocked indigenous and quilombola rights to access land. This movement promotes the delegitimization of anthropological knowledge and of the sciences in general, while undermining the fundamental rights referenced by the Brazilian constitution. With the inauguration of a neoconservative government, intolerance has grown. As Bauman warns, one of the conditions of the dehumanization of the “Other” is authorization by government practices. The challenges facing Brazilian anthropology have increased dramatically in this scenario.
Abstract Although the expression "rape culture" is not new, it has gained the streets and social networks with the new feminist movements, after the publicity of a gang
AbstractThis article aims to identify and analyze different issues and interfaces between anthropological studies on gender and sexuality, and social movements for women's rights and for rights for sexual diversity in Brazil. I argue that these studies, especially on the last two decades, have enlarged their issues, towards corporeality, self and subjectivity, agency, feelings and affects. Always reinforcing gender relations as different positions in power and hierarchy, the concept of gender is understood in the mode of becoming or becoming otherwise, no more identities, but identifications, proposing a rupture of dichotomies as heterosexuality and homosexuality, masculinity and femininity. These studies reveal the political challenges between the fight for human rights of women and sexual diversity and the fight for cultural diversity, as well as political effects from different choices of anthropological methodologies.
