Early guidance emphasizes the provision of information to families about growth and normal development in childhood such as specific information about security at home. This research aimed to analyze mothers' knowledge about the prevention of accidents in childhood before and after an educational intervention. It was conducted as a quasi-experimental study with 155 mothers in a Basic Health Unit in northeastern of Brazil in April and May of 2015. The data were collected in two stages through a self-report questionnaire performed before and after the educational intervention by the subjects. The results revealed a significant increase in knowledge about prevention of accidents in childhood in all the self-applied questions (p<0.05). After the educational intervention, there seemed to be a significant difference with the questions regarding the knowledge on preventing fall (p=0.000), drowning (p=0.000), and intoxication (p=0.007). The authors concluded that the educational intervention performed in this study increased the subjects’ knowledge on prevention of accidents in childhood.
Objective: to evaluate the contribution of educational technology on pressure injury regarding assistance quality indicators. Methods: a quasi-experimental study, with the design before and after the educational intervention, related to an online course on pressure injury. Data collection was done in three phases: the gathering of pressure injury indicators; implementation of the educational intervention; and post-intervention evaluation of the patients. Results: 47 patients were evaluated in each phase. The risk assessment and the description of the skin in the admission presented higher figures after the educational intervention. Description of preventive measures was higher in the educational post-intervention group, which presented a high-level index in the pre-intervention group (80.9%). The number of patients with pressure injury decreased from 53.2% to 42.6% (p=0.500). Conclusion: the impact of the communication and information technology was observed, especially on the decrease of occurrence of injuries.
Objective: to verify the ability of nursing and medical academics related to hand hygiene technique. Methods: this is a cross-sectional study carried out with 61 academics. Hands hygiene with 70.0% alcohol gel was used, in which Visirub® fluorescent dye was added, which allowed observing areas not contemplated during hand hygiene and investigation of the eight steps recommended by the World Health Organization. Results: 35.7% of nursing academics and 15.1% of medical students used the hand hygiene technique with 70.0% alcohol gel following the eight recommended steps. The least accomplished steps by the nursing academics were "rubbing the back of each hand with the back of the other", as 46.4% did not perform it. Among medicine students, the least accomplished step was "rubbing the back of the fingers with the palm of the other hand", by 63.6%. No scholar was able to contemplate all areas. Conclusion: no academic has been able to perform hand hygiene in all areas properly, hence the need to reinforce the correct technique.
Objective: To identify the prevalence of anxiety and depression and its association with psychoaffective, family-related, and daily-life variables of celiac individuals. Methods: Crosssectional study, developed with 83 celiac patients in Fortaleza. An instrument was applied with variables grouped in the categories: psychoaffective, family-related, and daily-life. Results: It was found that 52 celiac patients (62.7%) had anxiety and 29 (34.9%) had depression. The clinical conditions found and the number of symptoms increased the chance of anxiety/depression. The predominant factors in those with anxiety were Lack of control of the celiac disease (98.1%), Perceived clinical condition (75.0%), Daily obstacles for maintaining a gluten-free diet (63.4%), and Daily activities (55.8%). In those with depression, there was a higher prevalence of Lack of control of the celiac disease (100.0%), Perceived clinical condition (82.2%), and Daily obstacles for maintaining a gluten-free diet (69.0%). Conclusion: Celiac individuals with anxiety and depression frameworks presented a higher frequency of Perceived clinical condition, Insufficient social support (psychoaffective factors) and Daily obstacles for maintaining a gluten-free diet (daily-life factor).
Objective: to analyze the accuracy of clinical indicators of “Ineffective health management” in celiac patients and to verify associations between sociodemographic characteristics and clinical indicators. Method: a cross-sectional study, conducted from May to September 2017, with 83 celiac patients, through an interview. Accuracy measures were defined by latent class model. Results: there was a prevalence of “Ineffective health management” of 55.69%. “Failure to take action to reduce risk factor” and “Failure to include treatment regimen in daily living” better predict this diagnosis. Paid occupation reduces the chance of the presence of “Difficulty with prescribed regimen”. Participation in support association reduces the chance of the presence of “Difficulty with prescribed regimen”, “Ineffective choices in daily living for meeting health goal” and “Failure to take action to reduce risk factor”. Conclusion: accurate clinical indicators identification assists clinical reasoning for diagnostic inference in specific health contexts.
