Bei sechs yon den neun Kindern der Familie O'Connor, fiber welche ich im Jahre 1904 im 27. Bande dieser Zeitsehrift berichtet babe, war zur Zei~ jenes Berichtes eine spas~isehe Paraplegie beobaeh~e~ worden. Es waren die sechs i~lteren Geschwister in versehiedenen Graden mit dem Familieniibel behaf~ek die drei jiingeren waren noch frei yon demselben. Allerdings gal~ das achte Kind, Edward, ein 10jghriger Knabe, bei seinen AngehSrigen damals auch als etwas ,,lahm", wi(~ sie sieh ausdrtick~en. Ieh konnt~e mieh abet nieht yon dem Vorhandensein der Krankheit bei ihm iiberzeugen. Die Sehnen-und Periostreflexe an den oberen und unteren Gliedmassen waren ziemlieh lebhaft; Klonu~ und Rigidit/ig fehlten vollst~Kndig. Der Plantarreflex war ganz normal. lm Augus~ 1906 aber soll der Knabe eine fieberhaf~e Krankheit iiberstanden haben. Gleich danach fiel auf, dass er nut wenig Neigung bekundete, umherzugehen, was als Folge tier nach dem Fieber und tier Be~t~ruhe zuriickgebliebenen Schwiiehe gedeute~ wurde. Am 3. September jedoch, einem Feier~age, als man ihn zum Ansehen eines Festzuges mi~nehmen woll~e, war er nicht imstande, sieh auf den Fiissen zu hal~en, undes war seiner Umgebung zur Gewissheit geworden, dass Edward nun wirklich zum siebenten spasgisehen Mi~glied tier Familie geworden war. Als ich ihn am 25. September 1906, also nur wenige Wochen nach Einsetzen der Krankheit, zum ersten Mal skit 1904 wieder sah, da fand ieh den spastischen Zustand roll entwickett. Der Patient schleppte sich auf Krt~eken mt~hsam mit den Fussspitzen sehleifend umher. Es bestand Pes equinus mid etwas Abduktorenkrampf. Beiderseits tiess sich Fussklonus und Patellarklonus leicht hervorrufen. Auch in den oberen Extremitaten waren Sehnen-und Periostreflexe pathologiseh gesteigert. Der Unterkieferreflex war deutlieh fiber die Norm erh(iht. BewegungsstSrung war in den Armen und Hhnden night vorhanden; nut wurde bemerkt, dass,
