Es wird erklärt, daß sich die Mühe, aus einem gegebenen fremdsprachlichen Text einen bearbeiteten Text zu schaffen, der Häufigkeit des Gebrauchs, Produktivität, Nützlichkeit, Natürlichkeit, Einfachheit, etc, der phonologischen, grammatischen und lexikalischen Elemente der Zielsprache berücksichtigt, nicht lohnt. So ist der Textbuchautor, der einen solchen sorgfaltig graduierten Sprachkurs zusammenstellen will, zu Kompromissen gezwungen, da sich Graduierungskriterien wie z. B. Häufigkeit des Gebrauchs und Einfachheit oft widersprechen. Der Verfasser vertritt die Meinung, daß fremdsprachliche Texte bereits in natürlicher Form die häufigen und nützlichen Elemente der Zielsprache enthalten. Der Textbuchautor sollte daher seine Energien lieber darauf verwenden, geeignete unbearbeitete Texte in angemessener Länge ausfindig zu machen, als daraus nach Anwendung der genannten Graduierungskriterien ähnliche Texte zu konstruieren. Der Verfasser versucht zu erklären, daß damit auch dem Lernenden mehr gedient ist.
