AbstractMethods of estimation of height of trees in Semideciduous Seasonal Forest. The research was conducted in Forest of Rosal, Guaçuí-ES, in order to evaluate accuracy and running time of five height estimating methods in different ground conditions; the methods are as follow: Vertex hypsometer (1); Digital Clinometer (2), estimation with aid of a 15 meters ruler (3), and visual estimation with training (4) and untrained (5) in three height classes: 1 (15.00 -17.99 m), 2 (18.00 -20.99 m), and 3 (>21.00 m). It were measured 124 individuals in flat ground and 87 individuals in sloping ground. The height data were compared by t test and residual graphic analysis and additional statistics. To evaluate time, it was improved a t test. The method 5 had the worst performance in terms of accuracy, the best performance was improved by the method 4. The slop affected negatively the digital equipment performance and favored the method 3. There was a tendency to underestimate height as classes increase. The methods 4 and 5 consumed less time and method 3 consumed the highest average time. The class effect on average time on flat ground was the same for all methods but method 2. On slope ground, performance of methods 3 and 4 weren't altered.
Abstract Effect of different classes of height and pruning intensity on growth of a hybrid eucalyptus. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of interaction between pruning intensity and height class on the growth of the hybrid Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla. The experiment was installed on a sloping area in the municipality of Mimoso do Sul, ES. The design used was the completely randomized in factorial arrangement 4 x 4 (classes of height x pruning intensity). That revealed that as the classes of height as the pruning intensity had significant effect on tree growth at 5% probability, indicating that trees larger than 4 meters of height had more intense growth than trees located in lower stratus and with increase of pruning intensity; there were a reduction on the growth, and the 80% pruning treatment presented smaller diameter and height growth. Interaction between pruning intensity and height class on the trees' growth was not significant at 5% probability.
Palavras-chave: manejo florestal, otimização, heurísticasGenetic algorithm metaheuristic in the solution of forest management models AB S TR ACTThis work aimed to test the Genetic Algorithm (GA) metaheuristic evaluating its effectiveness and efficiency in the solution of this kind of problem, and comparing its results with those obtained by the software CPLEX. A completely randomized design, as the factorial arrangement, was used to analyze the effect of different parameters on GA performance. Sizes of initial population (Pini), crossing-over rates (Tcross) and crossing-over methods breaks (Mcross) were the analyzed factors. In the cases that the interactions were significant by F test (P < 0.05) the differences among the means were tested by Tukey test at 5% probability level. The percentage distance (distance between the answer of AG and the exact answer) and the time of processing were used as a measure of effectiveness and efficiency, respectively. The initial population is the factor that most influenced the AG performance considering percentage distance and processing time, so that for larger Pini are found greater proximity of GA response to the exact response and also greater processing times.
