The role of SMEs development on poverty alleviation has been a core element of the current report. This study examined the role of small and medium enterprises on poverty eradication in Nigeria. Two research questions were posed for the study and two hypotheses formulated in line with the objectives. One hundred and forty two (142) questionnaires were administered randomly to the entire employee population of the SME companies that are registered with SMEDAN in Lagos Nigeria. The sample size was determined using Yamane formula. The data was analysed using manual and electronic based methods with the aid of data preparation grid and statistical package for the social sciences, (SPSS) statistical package version 21.0. The study made use of statistical tools which include: analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation efficient and regression analysis in testing hypotheses where applicable. Therefore, the study found out that SME development affects poverty alleviation and also Training organized by SMEDAN affects SMEs employment creation. It was discovered that the small and medium enterprises provided employment opportunities, training ground, harnesses utilization of local resources and also acts as a pillar hold of a nation, Nigeria inclusive. The study concluded that a good development strategy if employed by these SMEs will grow to large-scale capital intensive. The study recommends that SMEs should source their loans from the financial institutions where interest rates are low.
With rapidly changing work environment and digitalization in social life, it is easier and effective to use electronic learning (E-learning) systems to train human resource. This training can cover various dimensions like technologies, product, services, culture and policies. This study examined the influence of E-Learning on employee training and development. Two research questions were posed for the study and two hypotheses formulated in line with the objectives. As such, the objectives of the study were to examine whether the employees with less workload spend more time on E-learning than employees with higher workload, thus handle larger responsibilities and how the trainings imparted through E-learning has influence on performance of the employees and service quality. The study employed survey research, the experimental research and the ex-post facto. For this research, the quantitative research design was used. Questionnaires were administered to a sample size of two hundred and sixty (260) employees out of the seven hundred and twenty six (726) employee population of Non Academic Staffs of Kwara State University Nigeria. The simple random sampling and the test re-test reliability approach was adopted. The research found out that E-learning is a facilitating step for improving the pace of learning and reducing employee down-time thus enabling employees to handle greater responsibilities. Thus it concluded that employees with less workload can be made more responsible by providing training through E-learning. And it was also revealed that E-learning improves performance of employees by enhancing their productivity which influences quality of work thus improves employee performance. Based on the results of findings, the study recommends that Learning interactivities designed to accomplish knowledge transfer with a heavy emphasis on skills development on online learning platform can be used for new hires and market including: Business operations, auxiliary services, guidelines and future markets which will enhance employees performance and service quality. Other e-learning solutions are important as they are self-directed and much easy than any other methods of training.
This study explored the relationship between organizational reward system and employee performance. Competition has become tenser in various sectors of the economy, organizations are harsh to boost employee morale at work and this situation requires management to be more careful in setting up reward system and remunerations to its employees in addition to their wages and salaries. The objectives of the study are to examine the effect of Employee Benefit on Job Performance and also to investigate the effect of Work Bonuses on Employees Motivation. 124 copies of questionnaire were administered to Cadbury Plc employees in Lagos State, Nigeria to get primary data that treated and tested appropriate research questions and hypotheses accordingly. For the purpose of this study, correlation and descriptive research was employed. The Yamane formula was adopted to determine the sample size. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences and Cronbach's alpha was employed. The study found out that employee bonus significantly affects employee motivation in business and employee benefit significantly affects job satisfaction in business. The study recommends that organizations need to have a reward system(s) as a standard which is considered fair and equitable. Not having a reward system in an organization will lead to resistance from the employees and also Incentive management and practices such as pay incentives and fringe benefits should be based on realistic and standard methods in accordance with industrial benchmarks, indices and procedures and should likewise conform to ethical valuations and practices.
The small-scale industry in Nigeria is considered to be an important element to the growth of the economy in contributing to the gross domestic products of the economy, and it has been of contention that strategic leadership has influenced and sustained the performance of small and medium enterprises. As such, the main objective of the study is to examine how the exercising of strategic leadership has influenced and sustained the performance of small and medium enterprises in Nigeria in terms of social impact. About 300 questionnaires were administered to small sized companies. The study found that there is a significant influence of strategic planning on sustaining small and medium enterprises profit performance and the results indicated that the managers that sustain profitability performance are those that are strategic in planning. The study discovers that the return on investment of small and medium enterprise depends on the appropriateness of its leadership practices. The study recommends that small-sized companies should be effective in their strategy implementation in order to achieve the corporate objectives of indigenous small and medium enterprises.
