ZusammenfassungDie traditionelle Stereotypenforschung ist geprägt von wechselnden Konjunkturen bei der Bewertung ethnischer Stereotypen. Einerseits werden sie als sprachlicher Ausdruck von Vorurteilen, andererseits als notwendige kognitive Orientierungen betrachtet. Die konversationsanalytische Perspektive ermöglicht beides, soziale Kategorisierungsleistungen als gemeinsame Wurzel beider Ausprägungen zu beschreiben und nach Besonderheiten der interaktiven Produktion ethnischer Stereotypen zu fragen. Analysen aus Face-to-face-Gesprächen unterschiedlicher Kontexte zeigen, daß „Stereotypenkommunikation“ eine expansive, expressive, mit Entrüstung aufgeladene moralische Kommunikationsform ist. Allerdings sind die Interagierenden für die Ratifizierung der Bewertung von Eigenschaften verschiedener Ethnien auf die Kooperation der anderen angewiesen. Dabei stellt sich heraus, daß die gemeinsame Verurteilung sensibel für Einwände ist, was sich in Absicherungsstrategien und Modalisierungen zeigt. Relativierungen, Umbewertungen oder andere „Gegengifte“ können Stereotypisierungen sogar ausbremsen. Insgesamt durchzieht dieser reflexive Bruch ungesicherter Loyalitäten die Stereotypenkommunikation als konstitutives Merkmal, und es stellt sich ausblickend die Frage, ob sich auch außerhalb dieser Materialbasis eine Veränderung in den kommunikativen Bedingungen und moralischen Gewißheiten sozialer Ausgrenzungs- oder Kategorisierungsprozesse abzeichnet.
