Summary The plasma levels of glutamic‐oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic‐pyruvic transaminase (GPT) and ornithine‐carbamyl transferase (OCT) were studied in 11 pigs with spontaneous liver dystrophy (LD) and 14 pigs with spontaneous muscular dystrophy (MD). LD is associated with elevations of all three enzymes. In MD, GOT and GPT are elevated but OCT is normal. This is in accordance with the observation that the content of OCT is very low in swine muscles. GOT and OCT are more specific than GPT, which may be elevated in other diseases, too, in pigs.
Summary The levels of glutamic‐oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic‐pyruvic transaminase (GPT) and ornithine carbamyl transferase (OCT) were determined in blood plasma of normal pigs. Mean values and standard deviations were 28.03 ± 15.39, 20.37 ± 5.54, and 5.93 ± 2.42 units, respectively. The enzyme concentrations were also examined in different organs. Skeletal and heart muscle contains large amounts of GOT and GPT but are very poor in OCT, while the liver is very rich in OCT. This offers a valuable combination of estimations for differentiating between muscle damage and liver damage. The elimination of the enzymes was determined after intravenous infusion of tissue homogenates. Normal levels were reached after 1 to 5 days. Zusammenfassung Transaminase‐ und Transferase‐Aktivitäten in Blutplasma und Geweben gesunder Schweine Im Blutplasma gesunder Schweine wurden die Spiegel der Glutaminoxalessigsäure‐Transaminase (GOT), der Glutaminpyruvatsäure‐Transaminase (GPT) und der Ornithin‐Carbamyl‐Transferase bestimmt. Mittelwerte und Standardabweichungen waren 28,03 ± 15,39, 20,37 ± 5,54 bzw. 5,93 ± 2,42 Einheiten.
