Alison Wylie é conhecida, em especial, por seus escritos em filosofia e ética da arqueologia. Mas ela também escreveu extensamente sobre questões ligadas às relações entre a ciência e os valores e sobre a filosofia feminista da ciência. Nascida no Canadá, ela divide seu tempo entre Esta entrevista foi realizada após sua conferência no Instituto de Estudos Avançados da USP, em 14 de outubro de 2013, com o título "Feminist standpoint theory and the formation of gender archaeology: What knowers know well". Ela é composta de três blocos temáticos, sendo o primeiro sobre sua trajetória intelectual; o segundo sobre o significado de fazer ciência enquanto feminista e a relevância das análises feministas sobre a ciência; e o terceiro acerca dos ideais contextuais de objetividade, do papel dos valores não cognitivos na ciência e outras questões de filosofia da ciência. Para iniciar, conte-nos um pouco a respeito de sua trajetória intelectual, de seus estudos na universidade e de seu interesse pela arqueologia e pela filosofia da arqueologia.Sou de origem canadense e, como meu pai era militar, nós nos mudávamos frequentemente, a cada poucos anos, sobretudo entre Ontário e Quebec. Uma coisa que estava sempre presente, onde quer que morássemos, era o interesse apaixonado dos meus pais pela arqueologia. Quando estava sediado em Ontário, meu pai e um de seus colegas conseguiram um financiamento do Canadian National Museum para explorar sítios arqueológicos dos Iroqueses e dos Hurões, ao longo do rio Saint Lawrence. Por isso, na maior parte dos verões da minha infância, passava várias semanas em sítios arqueológicos. Essa experiência não gerou propriamente em mim um amor pela arqueologia. O trabalho envolvia calor e sujeira, e nós, as crianças, geralmente éramos enviadas para cavar nas áreas situadas nas bordas dos sítios, que se acreditava serem áreas estéreis. Sylvia Caiuby Novaes é professora do Departamento de Antropologia da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) e dedica-se há cerca de 50 anos à pesquisa e ao ensino em antropologia. Entre outras realizações, ela é uma das pioneiras da antropologia visual no Brasil, é fundadora do Laboratório de Imagem e Som da Antropologia (LISA) e editora responsável pela revista Gesto, Imagem e Som. Revista de Antropologia (GIS). Nesta entrevista, realizada por mais de 30 orientandos de diferentes gerações, Sylvia fala sobre sua trajetória, projetos, visão de mundo, suas diversas viagens, o fascínio pelas pesquisas de campo e a universidade. Ao contar sobre sua trajetória acadêmica e pessoal, Sylvia traz reflexões sobre sua relação com a fotografia e a produção de imagens.
Interexplosões de metáforas escuras que choram. Quando apago as luzes, todos choram. Como consolo, poeira estelar em pitadas débeis e infantis pisadas, esmagadas, dilaceradas. Então começo a fl utuar, em adoração ao nada. Orbitamos seu centro; habitamos a intimidade daquilo que não vemos. Esse móbile demente gira com sua própria música, aquela que não escutamos. Colocamos muitos pés dentro dessa noite rasgada de luz inexistente, como uma centopéia que ondula em meio a tormentas e trovões. Muitos giros e piruetas de trapezista, mas sem a graça nem a consciência. De repente somos vidro, da areia mais fi na e brilhante. Mas não sabemos disso: apenas continuamos uma dança invisível, em meio a algas e nuvens. Atravessamos como heróis pedras quentes sem tocá-las e lugares enfermos esquecidos pelo Sol. Somos o móbile mais pesado que conhecemos. E dançamos a ciranda no único lugar em que somos incorpóreos, leves. Flutuação no ar que nos é pesado, que vai fi cando para trás, como um balão de papel molhado. Somos contrários a nós mesmos. Mas qual é o contrário de doce? Amargo; salgado; azedo. O contrário talvez nem sempre se constitua pela ausência. Tampouco somos doce. Somente vagamos através dos buracos e vazios que o tempo esqueceu de percorrer. Enveredamos enroscados nas falhas como vagabundos. Não temos identidade, apenas uma unidade de mãos que se atam. Nossas horas acabam, nos mastigam, nos atropelam os ponteiros. Continuamos com as mãos em fundição etérea e nos vemos entrelaçados: somos uma colcha, a da humanidade, com tantas cores e retalhos. Retalhos são restos, e restos são erros. Pois nunca somos demais para nos excluirmos.
