Arabidopsis thaliana is a small, owering plant that is widely used as a model organism in plant biology, mainly because it is the rst plant to have its entire genome sequenced. It has since proven to be an ideal organism for studying plant development. Arabidopsis is commonly used as a model plant for genomics, metabolomics and proteomics studies, and more recently it has been utilized in metallomic studies. Because of its widespread applications, many methods for Arabidopsis sample preparation, analytes separation and data quanti cation have been explored. is review brie y describes the Arabidopsis thaliana characteristics, the developed researches and the primary methods using this plant in di erent elds of OMICS. In the future, the availability of Arabidopsis genomic information may result in its continuous development for nanoparticles and metallomics studies.

Chemical speciation approaches is an inherent part of metallomics, once metals/metalloids and organic structures need to be currently evaluated for attaining metallomics studies. Then, this chapter focuses on the applications of the chemical speciation applied to the human health risk, food and human diet, drugs, forensic, nanoscience, and geological metallomics, also pointing out the advances in such area. Some aspects regarding sample preparation is commented along this chapter, and some strategies for maintaining the integrity of the metallomics information are also emphasized.

A Deus pelo dom da vida, por me mostrar cada dia seu eterno amor, sua misericórdia e sua companhia.A minha mãe (Rosa Elena), minhas irmãs (Angie e Stephania), minha sobrinha (Geraldinne), a todos meus familiares, que apesar da distancia, me apóiam incondicionalmente e são uma das minhas grandes motivações para lutar por meus sonhos.

O presente trabalho consistiu na obtenção e avaliação do perfil metalômico de amostras de soro sanguíneo dos grupos denominados Controle, composto por indivíduos saudáveis, Transtorno Bipolar, por pacientes diagnosticados com transtorno bipolar tipo I, e Outras Doenças, por pacientes diagnosticados com esquizofrenia ou transtorno esquizoafetivo. Analisou-se, portanto, a presença de íons metálicos nas amostras tanto qualitativamente quanto quantitativamente, com a finalidade de observar diferenciações entre os grupos investigados, bem como de revelar possíveis marcadores biológicos do transtorno bipolar e da esquizofrenia.
