Eine Anzahl von Mikroorganismen, die zum Großteil aus infizierten Penicillin-Ansätzen bzw. -Testen isoliert worden waren, wurde auf ihre Fähigkeit, Penicillinase zu bilden, untersucht. Bei allen Organismen, die sich als penicillin-resistent erwiesen hatten, konnte einwandfrei intra- oder extrazelluläre Penicillinase festgestellt werden. Zum raschen Nachweis der Penicillinase-Bildung von Mikroorganismen werden zwei Kulturmethoden beschrieben.
Es wird eine einfache Methodik zur Ermittlung von Penicillinbildern beschrieben. Dabei dient als „Siebtest“ das Verhalten der Pilze gegenüber E. coli und Bakterien, die extrazelluläre Penicillinase bilden. Zur näheren Charakterisierung des Penicillins wird dessen Verhalten bei den pH-Werten 2 und 9, beim Erhitzen und gegenüber Cu-Ionen herangezogen.Mit Hilfe dieser Methodik, auf Grund des Verhaltens der Kulturfiltrate beim Chromatographieren und der gewonnenen Penicillinpräparate werden folgende Penicillium-Arten als Penicillinbildner gekennzeichnet: P. baculatum Westl., P. brunneo-rubrum Dierckx, P. cyaneofulvum Biourge, P. citreo-roseum Dierckx, P. griseo-roseum Dierckx, P. griseo-brunneum Sopp und P. Godlewskii Zal.Es wird bestätigt, daß der Großteil der penicillinbildenden Penicillien zu den Radiaten gehört, während nach den bisherigen Befunden in den anderen Gruppen des Penicillium-Systems nur vereinzelt Penicillinbildner anzutreffen sind. Um eine entscheidende Aussage darüber machen zu können, für welche Arten und Gruppen des Penicillium-Systems das Vermögen zur Penicillinbildung charakteristisch sein mag, fehlt aber noch eine systematische, sich auf alle Penicillien erstreckende Untersuchung.
