Nach der von v. P e c h m a n n und D u i s b e r g entdeckten Cumarinsynthese lassen sich mit guten Ausbeuten nur solche Phenole mit Acetessigester condensiren, welche zwei Hydroxyle in der m-Stellnng enthalten. Urspriinglicher Zweck vorliegender Untersnchung war es, an dem leicht zuganglichen /i-Methylumbelliferon festzustellen, o b sich Oxycumarine successive nitriren, amidiren und hydroxyliren nnd 60 in neue, durch directe Synthese nicht darstellbare Oxycumarine verwandeln lassen. v. P e c h m a n n und J. B. Coben%) haben schon einen diesbeziiglichen vorllufigen Versuch angestellt,aber ohne Erfolg. liegenden Troclinungstemperatur scheint unter anderm der Gesichtspunkt maDgebend gewesen zu sein, dafi man uber den Siedepunlit des wegzutrockriendeu Wassers hiiiausgehen musse ". Eine derartige Annahme wurde aber auf einer irrtumlichen Voraussetzung beruhen, denn bekanntermaBen wird der Siedepunkt des Wassers durch die Auflosung von Stoffen -und tatsSchlich handelt es sich bei den luftfeuchten Textilfasern urn wirkliche wasserigc Losuiigen -oft sehr erheblich in die Hohe getrieben, anderseits trocknet das Wasser sehr leicht ja auch unterhalb seines Siedepunktes weg.Ober die exakte Trocknung der Textilfasern sind schon von den verschiedensten Seiten eingehende Untersuchungen angestcllt worden, ohne dai3 diese jedoch zu einem befriedigenden Ergebnisse gefiihrt hatten. Die dabei gewonnenen Feststellungen sind zum Teil recht unzutreffend, und sie widersprechen sich vielfach auch. Eine liritische Zusammenstellung aller der zahlreichen Untersuchungen hieruber ist mehrfach schon gegeben worden, unter anderm uber die Trocknung der eine besoiidere Bedeutung kesitzenden Cellulose von M. R e nli e r a ) , und spater noch von S c h w a l b e 4 a ) . Es kann hier deshalb von einer iiochnialigen naheren Besprechung Abstand genommen werden. R e n k e r gibt selbst eine neue Trocknungsmethode an, aber auch diese an sich recht wohl ausgedachte Methode vermag nicht vollauf zu befriedigen.Der Grund fur die Unzulanglichkeit der bisherigen Trocknungsmethoden fur die verschiedenen Faserstoffe liegt vor allem darin, daD hierbei der Tatsache, dai3 die. Die Einstellung der Luft oder anderer Gaee auf einen bestimmt abzustufenden Grad der Feuchtung oder Trocknung ist ein Problem, das bisher nur in recht unvollkommenem MaDe gelost worden ist. Ich wandte mich der Bearbeitung dieser Aufgabe zu, nachdem ich bei meinen Untersuchungen uber den EinfluD der Luftfeuchtiglieit auf die Textilfasern beobachtet hatte, auf wie wenig sicheren FuDen alle mit der Luftfeuchtigkeitseinstellung, einschliefilich der praktischen Messung der Luftfeuchtiglieit, zusammenhangenden Fragen stehen. Als der von vornherein fur die Feuchtigkeitseinstellung von Luft oder Gasen gegebene Weg durfte deren Zusammenbringen mit wasserigen Losungen geeigneter Salze oder ahnlicher Stoffe gelten, die jeweils einem ganz bestimmten, von der Temperatur natiirlich noch abhangigen Feuchtigkeitsgleichgewichte entsprechen. Die Losungen lassen sich aber nur d a m mit befriedigendem Erfolge fur die Feuchtigkeitseinstellung verwenden, wenn ihre Konzentration immer auf der gleichen HGhe erhalten bleibt. Dieses gelingt in einfacher Weise, wenn man die Losungen der Stoffe in gesattigter, d. h. hachstkonzentrierter Form zur Anwendung bringt und dafur sorgt, dai3 die Losungen dauernd in moglichst inniger Beruhrung mit Bodenkorper bleiben. In diesem Falle wird bei A dnahme von Wasser aus Luft oder Gasen durch Nachlosen von Bodenkorper die Hochstkonzentration stets rasch wiederhergestellt werden. Anderseits wird bei einer Abgabe von Wasser seitens der hochstkonzentrierten Losungen nur eine kurze, schnell voriibergehende Steigerung der Konzentration durch Obersattigung moglich sein, da schon zufolge der Reizwirkung des vorhandenen Bodenkorpers der nberschufi rasch zur Abscheidung gelangen wird. Ein Wasserverlust der Losungen ist natiirlich immer wieder zu ersetzen, und umgekehrt mui3 auch das aus der Luft oder den Gasen aufgenommene Wasser zur Regenerierung der in Losung gegangenen festen Stoffe von Zeit zu Zeit durch Verdampfen wieder entfernt werden. Selbstverstandlich ist fur eine richtige Einstellung des Feuchtiglreitsgleichgewichtes die Anwendung des Gegenstromprinzips von Wichtigkeit. An Stelle der ausgesprochenen hijchstkonzentrierten Losungen kann man fur viele Zwecke, vor allem im Laboratoriumsgebrauch, mit Vorteil direkt auch die festen, aber dnnn dauernd feucht zu haltenden Stoffe verwenden, die so einfach als hochstkonzentrierte Losungen rnit einer sehr groBen Menge von Bodenkorper anzusehen sind. Die Losungen umkleiden die Stoffe dabei in feinster Schicht und bieten eine besonders groi3e Oberflache dar, so dafi die feuchten festen Stoffe sich gut zur Verwendung in Turmen eignen.
