OBJECTIVE: to describe the process of cross-cultural adaptation and clinical validation of the Neonatal Skin Condition Score. METHODS: this methodological cross-cultural adaptation study included five steps: initial translation, synthesis of the initial translation, back translation, review by an Committee of Specialists and testing of the pre-final version, and an observational cross-sectional study with analysis of the psychometric properties using the Adjusted Kappa, Intraclass Correlation Coefficient, and Bland-Altman Method statistical tests. A total of 38 professionals were randomly recruited to review the clarity of the adapted instrument, and 47 newborns hospitalized in the Neonatology Unit of the Clinical Hospital of Porto Alegre were selected by convenience for the clinical validation of the instrument. RESULTS: the adapted scale showed approximately 85% clarity. The statistical tests showed moderate to strong intra and interobserver item to item reliability and from strong to very strong in the total score, with a variation of less than 2 points among the scores assigned by the nurses to the patients. CONCLUSIONS: the scale was adapted and validated to Brazilian Portuguese. The psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the Neonatal Skin Condition Score instrument were similar to the validation results of the original scale.

Objectives: to validate a scenario for clinical simulation: prenatal nursing consultation for adolescents. Methods: methodological study developed from January to December 2019, in five stages (overview, scenario, scenario design, progression, debriefing and assessment). The validation involved four volunteer students, a teacher as a facilitator and four judges. The judges filled out a Likert scale with four responses. Data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel® software, version 2016. Absolute and relative frequencies and the content validity index were calculated, considering a minimum acceptable value of 1.0. Results: the preparation of the scenario was based on the proposed learning objectives. The scenario was validated with a global content validity index equal to 1.0. Final Considerations: the study achieved the proposed objective. This scenario can contribute to preparing nurses to work in the care of pregnant teenagers, a representative public in Brazil that requires specific care.
Descritores: Método Canguru, Pessoal de Saúde, Enfermagem Neonatal.KOREAN METHOD IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS OF A NEONATOLOGY UNITObjective: to analyze the perception of the Kangaroo Method by the health professionals of a Neonatology Unit. Methodology: descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted through interview with a partially structured script with 19 health professionals from a Neonatology Unit of a public hospital in the Federal District between April and May 2017. The content was analyzed according to the proposal of Bardin and the Interface Software for Multidimensional Analysis of Texts and Questionnaires (IRAMUTEQ). The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: the professionals highlighted the improvement and evolution of the clinical condition of newborns after skin-to-skin contact. The team’s knowledge regarding the Kangaroo Method was considered in line with the scientific literature. Conclusion: The participation of parents and brothers along with the shortage of human resources were recognized as gaps for better adherence to the method.Descriptors: Kangaroo Method, Health Personnel, Neonatal Nursing.MÉTODO CANGURU EN LA PERSPECTIVA DE LOS PROFESIONALES DE SALUD DE UNA UNIDAD DE NEONATOLOGÍAObjetivo: analizar la percepción del Método Canguro por los profesionales de salud de una Unidad de Neonatología. Objective: Understanding the perception of women who have recently given birth in a Brazilian hospital regarding labor pain and nursing involvement in the labor process. Methodology: exploratory, descriptive and qualitative study carried out in a Maternity part of the supplementary health system in the Federal District (DF). Data were collected between May and July 2015 through interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire. The sample consisted of 16 mothers and data analysis followed Bardin methodology in three phases. Results: The pain experienced during labor is surrounded by feelings and expectations. Both positive and negative feelings experienced by mothers were identified in the interviews and unanimous opinion was the fact that the second stage is the most painful period as continuous pain is experienced. Some of the participants compared pain with strong menstrual cramps, renal colic and back pain; others, said labor pain was the strongest ever experienced. The immediate contact with the newborn was referred to as a reward for coping with breast pain and suffering. Other factors such as the importance of follow-up, support and coping with the pain and care provided by health staff were also highlighted. Conclusion: empowerment of the mother and family through knowledge is considered an important tool to fight pain and cope with the birth process in a positive and physiological way, which in the long run promotes a cultural change in the population regarding the importance of vaginal birth.
The incidence of late-onset neonatal sepsis indicates a vulnerability in preterm infants due to immunological immaturity. These results reveal that knowledge of the profile of newborn infants admitted to the NICU and the risk factors to which they are exposed are central to the planning of nursing care for these patients. Future studies should address strategies for preventing nosocomial infection.
