Beck’s inventories for anxiety and depression were applied. Results: Most of the participants were female, single, native of the state capital and living with his parents. The prevalence of depression was 30.2% and of anxiety, 62.9%. Association between the level of depressive symptoms, work, sex and leisure was identified. Conclusion: The prevalence of symptoms of anxiety and depression was quite expressive, lacking, thus, more attention to the promotion of mental health of nursing students.
Work-related mental disorders have several causes and might affect all healthcare professionals. Nursing professionals are exposed to high physical and psychological demands which contribute to the development of mental illnesses. The aim of the present study was to survey studies conducted in Brazil to investigate the causal relationship between mental disorders and nursing professionals' work. Integrative review of studies conducted in Brazil from 2010 to 2017. The literature search was performed on the Virtual Health Library database. Combination of descriptors and application of filters resulted in seven articles. Duplicates, doctoral dissertations and articles which did not meet the study aims were excluded. Mental suffering impairs the family, social, personal and professional life of nursing professionals, their studies, self-comprehension and understanding of others, self-criticism ability, acceptance of problems and possibility to take pleasure in life as a whole. The physical load resulting from a large volume of activities, understaffing, large numbers of patients and psychological pressure in the workplace contribute to the development of mental disorders. The pressure to which nursing professionals are exposed in the workplace and double shifts, together with coping modalities and low salary contribute to sick leaves due to mental disorders. However, broader scoped studies are needed. Keywords | nursing; occupational diseases; mental disorders; occupational health.

BACKGROUND: The pandemic of the new coronavirus has culminated in a scientific race to seek knowledge about this virus and its treatments, vaccines and preventive strategies, in order to reduce its impact on healthcare and economics worldwide. Hence, it is important to recognize the efforts of researchers who are at the forefront of investigations relating to the new coronavirus. OBJECTIVE: The present study was carried out with the aim of analyzing the world scientific production relating to COVID-19. DESIGN AND SETTING: Exploratory and descriptive bibliometric study conducted in the city of Teresina (PI), Brazil. METHOD: ISI Web of Knowledge/Web of Science (WOS) was chosen as the database. Data-gathering was carried out in May 2020. The data analysis was performed using the HistCite TM software, version 9.8.24, and the VOSviewer bibliometric analysis software, version 1.6.8. RESULTS: 2,625 published papers that included descriptors within the scope of this investigation were identified. These articles were published in 859 different journals that are indexed in WOS, by 9,791 authors who were linked to 3,365 research institutions, located in 105 countries. CONCLUSION: Ascertaining scientific production through a bibliometric analysis is important in order to guide researchers on what has already been produced and what is being researched, so as to be able to address gaps in knowledge through future research.

Abstract Work in question in the "depression epidemic"The text argues that social suffering -particularly when manifest in the form of depression -is inherent to the current configuration of the world of work and affects the most diverse professional occupations, all of them marked by dissociation and overwork.Paradoxically in an era involving the overestimation of mental disturbances and the medicalization of society, suffering at work is expelled from the clinical, theoretical and political field.

Objective: to analyze the scientific evidence available on the factors and implications related to the use of psychoactive substances by nursing workers. Method: an integrative review, which had the following as selection criteria: primary studies, published between 2008 and 2017, without language restrictions and that included aspects related to the consumption of psychoactive substances by nursing professionals. The bibliographic survey was carried out in the months of September and October 2018, in the following databases: CINAHL, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, Web of Science and LILACS, BDENF and IBECS via the Virtual Health Library. Results: a total of 14 articles were analyzed, with predominance of cross-sectional (28.57%), qualitative descriptive (28.57%), and quantitative descriptive (14.28%) studies, with significant samples ranging from 12 to 33,588 nursing professionals, and with 2C level of evidence (100.00%). The synthesis of knowledge was formulated in two categories: Predisposing factors for the consumption of psychoactive substances by nursing workers; and Implications of the use of psychoactive substances in personal life and in the quality of nursing care. Conclusion: the evidence found shows that the use of psychoactive substances represented a reality present in the daily lives of nursing workers and the close relationship with the working conditions represented the main associated factor, with the work environment being the major influencer for consumption.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
