RESUMOObjetivando analisar a prevalência de TVT em relação ao sexo, raça, idade, localização da lesão e resposta ao tratamento quimioterapêutico foi realizado um estudo retrospectivo de 144 cães atendidos no Hospital Veterinário da Universidade de Uberaba (HVU) durante os anos de 2007 à 2012, diagnosticados com TVT através da realização de exames de cito ou histopatologia. Destes, 59% eram cães sem raça definida (SRD). Apesar de 16,7% dos cães avaliados não terem suas idades determinadas, os resultados desta pesquisa revelaram que os pacientes apresentaram idade variando entre 1 e 15 anos sendo a faixa etária entre 2 e 8 anos (40,2%) a mais afetada. Em relação ao sexo, este trabalho demonstrou que as fêmeas foram mais acometidas que os machos (66,7 e 33,3% respetivamente). Observou-se que a principal localização da neoplasia foi a vulva (65,3%), seguida pelo pênis (30,6%), cavidades nasal (3,5%) e oral (0,7%). Dentre os 54 cães que foram submetidos ao tratamento no hospital veterinário, 39 concluíram o protocolo, sendo que 33 apresentaram citorredução completa utilizando vincristina como agente único; 3 animais se encontravam em tratamento ao final do estudo e nos 3 casos em que houve quimiorresistência, os pacientes se beneficiaram de doxorrubicina. SUMMARYTo analyze the prevalence of TVT in relation to sex, breed, age, lesion location, and response to chemotherapeutic treatment, a retrospective study from 2007 to 2012 was conducted with dogs from the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Uberaba (HVU) diagnosed with TVT by cytology or histopathology. Which, 59% were mongrel dogs (59%). Although 16.7% of these dogs had their ages undetermined, the data of this study showed that patients were aged between 1 and 15 years being the range between 2 and 8 years (40.2%) the most affected. Regarding sexual predisposition, this study shows that females were more affected than males (66.7, 33.3% respectively). The primary site of the tumor occurrence was the vulva (65.3%), followed by the penis (30.6%), nasal (3.5%) and oral cavities (0.7%). Among 54 dogs that were treated at the hospital 39 dogs completed therapeutic protocol, of these 33 dogs had complete cytoreduction using the single-agent vincristine, 3 animals were still receiving treatment at the end of the study and in the 3 chemoresistance cases, these patients were benefited from doxorubicin treatment.
Background: Lipoma is a benign tumor composed of mature adipose tissue commonly found in subcutaneous tissues. However, eventually, lipomas may be located between the muscle fasciae being classifed as intermuscular lipomas. Complete surgical resection of the tumor mass is indicated as a treatment of affected patients.This report describes fve cases of intermuscular lipoma in dogs, due to the scarcity of data in the literature and lipoma relative importance in the clinical and surgical routine.Case: Five dogs were presented with a history of a large volume in the limbs with progressive growth, suggesting the presence of neoplasia. The frst step was to conduct anamnesis, when the owner reported slow growth, absence of pain, limping and licking of site. No other change was observed upon physical examination. Complete blood count (CBC) as well as liver assessment (FA) and renal (creatinine) were performed in all patients, and the results showed no changes. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) was performed and showed cells from adipose tissue, followed by histopathological examination of the lesions. Histopathological examination after incisional biopsy of the tumors showed malignancy-freetissue, composed of adipocytes without atypia, interspersed with fbrovascular stroma, confrming the lipoma diagnosis.Intermuscular lipomas were diagnosed in fve dogs with a history of a large volume in the limbs with progressive growth; all of them underwent bloc resection of the tumors. In all cases, the intermuscular lipomatous tumors were well-circumscribed and easily isolated from the tissues.Discussion: Although lipomas are relatively common in older dogs, especially in the subcutaneous tissue, intermuscular subtype is rare in veterinary medicine, which justifes the report of these cases. Intermuscular lipomas account for only 0.3% of the occurrences in human medicine. Morphologically described as tumors of slow and progressive evolution, typically reaching sizes up to 2 cm in humans, the particular cases of tumor masses greater than 5 cm are called giant lipomas. Theslow development of intermuscular lipomas has also been described in domestic animals by, thus corroborating the clini cal history in this work. The intermuscular septum is considered as the origin of intermuscular lipoma, with subsequent development of the adipose tissue between adjacent muscle bundles, thus, resulting usually in well-circumscribed mass of easy surgical divulsion. The morphological characteristics of the resected lipomas, as well as the simple surgical technique corroborate descriptions in the literature. Intermuscular lipomas consist of a challenging diagnosis despite attracting little attention from surgeons. The possibility of the mass being malignant, such as liposarcoma, should also be consideredsince the clinical symptoms consist of swelling of the deep soft tissues. The diagnosis for all these patients was obtained by histopathological examination, since the simple observation of the clinical fndings alone does not support the tumor diagnosis. Lipoma and liposarcoma should be differentiated by cytological and histopathological evaluations of the neoplasia, whereas infltrative lipomas can be diagnosed based on diagnostic imaging methods or even on the fndings during surgery. In this report, specifcally, the fndings during surgery contributed to the differentiation between infltrative and intermuscular lipoma, while for malignancy rating all patients underwent cytological and histopathological evaluations asindicated in the literature. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that complete resection of intermuscular lipoma proved to be an effective treatment to cure the patients.Keywords: benign neoplasm, surgery, resection of intermuscular, canine.
As síndromes paraneoplásicas correspondem a manifestações clínicas associadas a neoplasias que ocorrem em locais distantes do tumor primário ou de suas metástases, sendo consideradas efeitos indiretos do câncer. Os sinais clínicos destas síndromes podem anteceder ou acompanhar a detecção clínica da neoplasia, promovendo maiores índices de morbidade e mortalidade. A detecção de uma síndrome paraneoplásica permite o diagnóstico precoce e o tratamento eficaz da neoplasia adjacente, melhorando o prognóstico e a qualidade de vida do paciente. O objetivo desta revisão foi descrever os aspectos fisiopatológicos, sinais clínicos, métodos de diagnóstico e tratamento das síndromes paraneoplásicas hematológicas, cutâneas e neuromusculares que acometem cães e gatos.
Mast cell tumors represent the most common malignant skin tumor in the dog. This review outlines the incidence, etiology and clinical signs of mast cell tumors. Diagnostic tests, staging and treatments are also discussed.

The standardization of methods to assess angiogenesis resulting from formation of new blood vessels in procedures with sti mulants is important to facilitate the implementation of research as well as to assist inter pretation of data. In rabbits some markers of angiogenesis antibodies in the skin are not standardized because of crossreactions that may occur because the antibodies are made from such animals.The aim of this study was to analyze the immunohistochemical metho ds through dyes and immunohistochemical markers angiogenesis in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) having undergone reconstructive surgery with skin grafts associated with plas ma angiogenesis stimulator rich in platelets, in order to evaluate which method would be better to visualize the vessels, as well as to evaluate which antibody would promote better immunostaining, and find the differences between the methods and to standardize the me thodology to be applied in experiments using rabbits. Sixteen rabbits were used, split into two groups of eight animals: Gprp (plasma rich in platelets) and Gc (control, saline solution, 9%). The same technique of reconstructive surgery using graft mesh was performed on each rabbit. The groups differed only in the application of plateletrich plasma before the surgical wound synthesis. Samples for evaluation of angiogenesis were collected 15 days after the surgical procedure. The dyes Hematoxylin & Eosin and Masson's Trichrome were used in the histochemical study to evaluate vascular proliferation. Markers CD31, CD34 and Caveolin1 was used for the immunohistochemical study. The evaluation between the groups (Gprp and Gc) in regard to the categorical variable (vascular proliferation intensity) used the KruskalWallis test with p values equal to or less than 0.05 being considered sig nificant. The aim of this study was to evaluate of the efficacy of PRP employment associated with surgical sponges to improve the integration of the graft in the recipient bed. It was held at the Veterinary Hospital UNESP, Campus of Jaboticabal - SP, a study of 64 rabbits, divided into eight groups with eight animals. The groups were divided in control with saline solution 0,9%, control with PRP both without the sponge, surgical sponge with PRP, surgical sponge without PRP, and were used mesh and layer grafts in the respective groups. The data were submitted to statistical analysis (paired t-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, with subsequent use of the multiple comparison tests of Dunn, analysis of variance (F) test, Tukey test, P< 0.05). Edema and exudate with 3 and 3 and 7 days (P= 0,03 e P= 0,0049); coloring on the 14th day (P= 0,0001); cosmetic appearance on the 7th and 14th day (P= 0,0026 and P= 0,0001); mononuclear cells (P= 0,01) and polymorphonuclear (P= 0,01); fibroblast proliferation (P= 0,01); collagenous (P= 0,05); hemorrhage (P-007); necrosis and re-epithelialization (P= 0,2928 and P= 0,1). We concluded that the use of Platelet Rich Plasma Gel on skin grafts associated with a sponge as a compressive dressing promote the skin graft survival without a previous granulation tissue.
The major malignant tumors found on the chest wall are sarcomas, including osteosarcomas, chondrosarcomas, fibrosarcomas, and hemangiosarcomas. Treatment of cancer, as well as chronic chest wall conditions, require radical surgical excision of the involved tissues. In addition to surgery, chemotherapy plays a role as adjuvant treatment in tumors affecting the chest wall, reducing chances of metastasis and prolonging the disease. The restoration of the chest wall has the main objective to restore the respiratory function, for this, a procedure is necessary that keeps the chest closed and stable. There are many materials used for chest repair, such as autogenous, synthetic, homologous and heterologous tissues. The main objective of this literature review is to address the main malignancies that affect the chest wall, as well as the resources most used to repair the damage caused by aggressive surgery in an attempt to promote greater safety margins.
