Palavras-chave: autoeficácia, ansiedade, realização a matemática Abstract Mathematics has been described as a "critical filter" for access to scientific and technological careers. Many variables have been identified as predictors of mathematical achievement, namely, anxiety and mathematical self-efficacy. In this study, with 112 secondary school students, we examined the role of these variables, after controlling the students' previous performance and sex, in the school performance of mathematics in a summative intermediate test. A linear regression showed that anxiety is a more efficient predictor than the measure of self-efficacy of mathematical performance. The psychoeducational implications of the results are discussed.
Palavras chave: perspectiva temporal, Rasch, rating scale model, DIF AbstractThe present study analyzes the psychometric properties of the Future Time Perspective Scale (FTPS) in a sample of Portuguese university students with the Rasch model. The results indicate that subscale items are well fitted to latent unidimensional structures, as required by Rasch modeling. The response scale showed proper functioning with the exception of speed subscale; therefore, people and item parameters were estimated with high precision. DIF analyses confirmed no differences between genders in the results. Limitations of this study and the psychometric implications of its results are discussed, providing suggestions for future research.
Palavras chave: imprevisibilidade familiar, Retro-FUS, Rasch, DIF AbstractThe present study analyzes the psychometric properties of the Retrospective Family Unpredictability Scale (Retro--FUS) in a sample of Portuguese university students with the Rasch model. The results indicated that scale items are well fitted to a latent unidimensional structure, as required by Rasch modeling. The response scale showed proper functioning, that can be refined, allowing people and item parameters to be estimated with high precision. DIF analyses confirmed no differences between genders in the results. Limitations of this study and the psychometric implications of its results are discussed, providing suggestions for future research.
Palavras-chave: vitimização, jovens adultos, comportamento anti-social, saúde mental AbstractThe phenomenon of victimization has been enjoying increasing attention both from the scientific community as from concerned citizens in general. In this study we examine the relationship between victimization and anti-social behavior in Portuguese community young adults (approximately 400 males and females). The group of victims and offenders differ from the groups of pure victims and controls in measures of delinquency, externalizing problems, drug abuse and domestic violence. The group of victims/offenders is a priority target for psychosocial interventions.
