Introduction: nurses and licensed practical nurses are among the most affected by postural deviations and their drawbacks, in the world. One of the ways to mitigate these ills is physical exercise, and it can be done at work environment, however, not as a form of workout gymnastics. Objective: To verify the effects of a muscle stretching exercise program (MSE) on posture and flexibility of nurses. Methods: Controlled clinical experiment with 28 nurses, aged 18-60 years, divided into experimental group (n=15) and control group (n=13). Anthropometric measures, flexibility and body posture of the trunk were performed. The intervention was of 08 weeks of MSE; each session lasted 40 min. The exercises had four sets of 30s of tension for 30s of the interval. An independent t-test compared the characteristics of the samples. The chi-square test treated the results regarding body posture, and the level of significance was p ≤ 0.05. Results: MSE promoted positive and chronic positive changes in the Experimental Group with attenuation of the concavities of the vertebral column in the cervical and thoracic regions. In the alignment of the cervical region and the curvature of the lumbar region, the effects were observed after the eight weeks of training, including sharp reduction of gibbosity in the scapula region after the exercise session. Conclusion: MSE promoted acute and chronic positive changes in body posture and flexibility in nurses.
[Purpose] This study aimed to develop and validate an assessment tool for Moiré topogram made specifically with the Shadow Moiré technique of the dorsum. [Subjects and Methods] In the analysis of topograms, frontal, sagittal, and transverse planes of individuals’ dorsal were considered. Two instructor evaluators analyzed the topograms at different times in the day and on different days. The measurements of intra- and inter- (intra- and interday) reliability were calculated. [Results] Of the three planes analyzed, in all analyses, good (0.61 to 0.80) and/or excellent (0.81 to 1) concordances were observed. [Conclusion] This analysis framework can be recommended to evaluate the topograms obtained with SMT.
Introduction: Nowadays, postural problems are widely discussed concerns because they involve quality of life and interfere with the functional aspects of individuals. To do this, muscle stretching exercise is suggested as useful in treating postural deviations. Objective: To investigate the effect of muscle stretching on body posture and analyze aspects of prescription and evaluation methods in order to relate the proposed training and results. Method: This systematic review was previously registered and accepted in International Registry Of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO, id: CRD42013005280), and described according to the recommendations of the PRISMA. The search data began with the choice of key terms and their synonyms, according to the Words of Heath (DeSC) and MeSH. After, seeking material was performed on the major databases of scientific information (SciELO; PEDro, PubMed and Google Scholar). The studies that met the eligibility criteria underwent an evaluation as to their methodological quality based on the Brazilian - Portuguese version of the PEDro scale. Results: seven scorers, clinical trials, found methodologically, following Pedro scale, which showed little evidence about the topic, which contain significant limitations and/or low methodological quality. Conclusion: There is little evidence on the effectiveness of the intervention with exercise stretching in correcting postural deviations, making it difficult to reach consensus or conclusions.
Introduction:Nursing professionals (NPs) experience musculoskeletal pain that leads them to leave work. Objective: To analyze the effects of muscle stretching exercises (MSE) on pain among NPs. Method: This is a randomized controlled parallel experiment, in which 28 NPs (7 men and 21 women) were allocated into experimental (EG, n = 15; 47.4 years ± 9.5) and control (CG, n = 13; 39.15 years ± 9.6) groups. MSEs were performed for two months, three days a week, 40 min per session. A visual numeric scale was used, for which the intensity ranged from 0 (no pain) to 10 (maximum pain). The research was registered at the Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry website (TRIAL: RBR-8chg6q). For statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk, T-independent and two-way ANOVA tests were applied for repeated measures with Tukey's post-hoc test (P ≤ 0.05). Results: Most NPs work on weekends (68%) and/or have other professional activities (60.7%); 42.9% had to miss work at least once in the year prior to the survey and 66.7% of those were due to medical reasons; 42.9% work more than 10 hours/day. Of the NPs, 89.3% of the volunteers in both groups lived daily with pain in some region of the body. Pain decreased after the MSE program was initiated in the EG (p = 0.001) and differed from the CG (p = 0.002). Conclusion: MSEs were beneficial for pain reduction in NPs. uma amostra de 28 PEF (7 homens e 21 mulheres), com idades entre 18 e 60 anos, divididos, aleatoriamente, em grupo experimental (GE: n = 15) e grupo controle (GC: n = 13).
Introduction: Nursing professionals (NP) have a very stressful work routine that makes them a category of risk for the development of occupational diseases. Physical exercises can ease stress, but there is doubt about the benefits of muscle stretching. Objective: To verify the effect of stretching exercises on stress in NP. Method: This is a randomized, parallel type study with the participation of 39 NPs (Experimental = 20, Control = 19). The occupational and occupational stress profiles were investigated by a questionnaire. The stretching classes lasted 8 weeks, 3 times weekly and 40 minute sessions. The data were treated with descriptive statistics and ANCOVA test (p≤0.05). Results: Regarding the occupational profile and occupational stress, the results showed that 64% considered the work 'heavy' with more than 10h/day (97%). On holiday, 62% reported taking more than 20 days, but 28% worked in that period. More than half were involved in other professional activities (51%) and used to work on weekends (97%). In the previous year, 49% were absent from the service one or more times for health reasons. Most of them (56%) were dissatisfied with their professional life, but considered the work environment to be 'very good' (92%) and 'good' and the relationship with colleagues as 'very good' (98%). After eight weeks of classes, there was a decrease in stress (F = 43.522, p <0.001, effect size = 0.547). Conclusion: Despite the work profile and stress, stretching exercises provided attenuation of occupational stress in NPs. Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (RBR-6PVVDB).
The postural assessment method most frequently used among Brazilian studies hasbeen photogrammetry.
