The evaluation of leaf area is required in several agronomic studies given their importance to assess the plant growth. The objective of this study was to use statistical models to estimate leaf area of five clonal varieties of coffee (Coffea canephora) from linear dimensions (length and width maximum). Were used in the studies five varieties of Coffea canephora Pierre ex Froehner: Emcapa 8111, Emcapa 8121 Emcapa 8131, Emcapa 8141 and at Incaper 8142. The results obtained in this study allow us to conclude that the linear model expresses the best estimate of leaf area. Among the different independent variables adopted, the product of length and greatest width (L.W) was found to be the greatest significance and higher coefficients of determination (R 2 ). The regression equation that best expresses the estimated leaf area for the five clonal varieties is i = 0.6723 + 0.6779 x i , where x i represents the product of the greatest length and the greatest width of the leaves. Seasonal vegetative growth of the coffee plant and its relationship with the photoperiod, fructification, stomatic resistance and photosynthesisAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate seasonal variations in vegetative growth in the coffee plant (Coffea arabica L.), as well as their relationships with photoperiod, fruits removal, photosynthesis and stomatic resistance. The growth of the branches and leaf area decreased from the middle of March on, reaching the lowest rates in May and June, when lowest air temperatures were registered. This growth model was not modified neither by extending the photoperiod up to 14 hours, nor by the removal of the fruits, even though fruitless coffee plants exhibited higher growth rates for branches and leaf areas. No significant difference was observed in the potential photosynthesis depending on the presence of fruits, and the extension of the photoperiod did not affect photosynthetic rates. Potential photosynthetic rates do not explain the decreases in growth. The minimum air temperature was associated to declines in the growth. At 14h, the stomatic resistance assumed relatively high values during the period from the middle of March to the beginning of May, so coinciding with drastic fall in the branch growth and leaf area gain. The initial decline in the vegetative growth can be associated to temperatures around 14ºC.
Active vegetative and reproductive growth in field-grown trees of Coffea arabica L. in Viçosa (20º45’S, 650 m altitude), south-eastern Brazil, occur concurrently. The overall patterns of branch growth and leaf area gain were to a certain extent altered by fruit removal, with growth rates being remarkably greater in de-fruited trees. The content of N-NO3 was not affected by fruiting, whilst that of amino-N was greater in de-fruited than fruiting trees most of the time, but the differences were not large enough to have significantly contributed to the increased growth rates in de-fruited trees. Leaf nitrate reductase activity was greater in plants bearing fruit than in non-bearing ones most of the time; activity was roughly inversely associated with growth. Although the roots contained much more nitrate than the leaves, the root nitrate reductase activity was much lower and not affected by fruiting. Much of the restrictive effects of fruiting on vegetative growth appeared to be associated to starch exhaustion, in addition to the outstanding effect of supra-optimum temperatures per se.
ABSTRACTThe aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of NPK on the growth of leaves and fruits and nutritional status of pineapple. Slips of pineapple Jupi , with weight of 250 g were planted in vessel with 13 dm 3 of dystrophic Yellow Latosol. The treatment consisted of 00; 31; 62; 93 e 124 g of NPK (20:05:20) divided in three applications (20%, 40% and 40%) of the dose after 45, 120 and 240 days. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block outline, with four replications. The mean weight of the fruit was influenced by NPK doses. The highest fruit weight was obtained in the fruit without crown and fertilization of NPK with 93 g. With the increase of doses of NPK, the brix tenors and total titled acidity increased while the relation brix/titled acidity decreased. (IBGE, 2006).
Abstract: Leaf area is one of the most important measures for evaluating the vegetative growth, and that their knowledge allows estimating water loss through transpiration, due to the leaves being the main organ responsible for gas exchange between the plant and the environment, making it important to its study. Thus, we intended to test this work and get the best mathematical model to estimate leaf area of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Haden according to their dimensions Allometric. We used a greengrocer located in São Domingos property in the municipality of Alegre, southern Espírito Santo, which was collected 80 sheets of 20 hoses in October 2013. The regressions were determined considering the actual leaf area as the dependent variable and the length (L), width (W) and the product of the linear dimensions (L x W) of each sheet as independent variables. Based on these results, we conclude that the polynomial equation y= 4.7677+ 0.6934x -0.0001x 2 was the best mathematical model to estimate the leaf area of the hose, with R² of 0.97. Models using the product L x W are best suited to estimate the leaf area of the hose, since the highest correlation.
